- Ali el Samesaj rescues the daughter of a Drakhon sultan of Calimshan from kidnappers. Her grandfather, Syl-Pasha Adjam el Drakhon, rewards him by raising him to the sultan's court, where he becomes the unofficial court wizard.[1][2]
