1383 DR in conflicts
- The War of Gold and Gloom comes to an end when the Army of Gold discovers the long-forgotten history of Clan Duergar, which precipitates an attack from an army of illithid thralls. The duergar and gold dwarf armies join with each other to repel the army and the duergar take the most casualties. The Army of Gold offers an alliance to what remains of the Army of Steel and the united dwarves march to retake Shanatar where they hope to be better prepared to repel the inevitable second attack from Oryndoll.[1]
- The Shadowbane War occurs when Netheril attacks the Zhentarim.[2][note 1] Zhentil Keep and the Citadel of the Raven are destroyed, and the Zhentarim's power over the Moonsea is broken.[3][4]

Named after Lolth's Lady Penitent, they (and many refugees from Ched Nasad) strive to prove themselves devout by intruding into the personal business of minor houses and exposing any perceived heresies to the public.[8]

Appendix
Notes
- ↑ The name of the Shadowbane War and its date of 1383 DR are given in Dungeon magazine Issue #170: Monument of the Ancients, in which the only additional information provided is that Cvaal Daoran killed a shade prince. It is not explicitly stated to be the same as the broader conflict between Netheril and the Zhentarim mentioned in other sources, and canon material does not explicitly name or date the conflict elsewhere. However, the author of Monument of the Ancients, Brian R. James, clarified in a Tweet that the broader conflict indeed occurred in 1383 DR. Thus, the Shadowbane War is presumed to be the name for the broader conflict.
