- The Murann Spice War opposing the Ophal and Ulvax families of Athkatla causes so many casualties that the Council of Six has to intervene, resulting in a massive rise in power for the Ophals.
1388 DR in politics
- Fiirnel'ther Vandree of House Vandree of Menzoberranzan assassinates her mother, Troken'ther, in order to assume leadership of her House. Before the end of the year, she is on the ruling council.[1]
1388 DR in organizations
- Zhentarim forces operating in the Tunlands are hampered as they are attacked by bullywug tribes dwelling in the Farsea Marshes.[2]
- As they have lost access to magic, a few of the War Wizards of Cormyr start cross-training in martial arts and swordsmanship with the Purple Dragons. When they regain the use of magic, they become the first swordmages.[2]
- The Gundwynd Clan is rendered extinct in Waterdeep after entering the burial portal in their family tomb in the City of the Dead to bury three members, shortly after the Spellplague first struck the city. All who emerge are permanently transformed into trolls or giants. [3]
