Deaths in 1488 DR
- Anivar Daoran, Lord Protector of Phlan, dies in what appears to be a construction accident. Ector Brahms, Knight-Commander of the Black Fist, is appointed Lord Regent of the Cinnabar Throne. The city soon descends into anarchy, and Brahms declares martial law.[1]
- In Cormyr, in the mansion of Sardasper Halaunt, many archmages killed each other for possession of the mythical Lost Spell. Among the casualties were Shaaan, Maraunth Torr, Calathlarra from the Twisted Rune, the Harper Alastra Hathwinter, Laragunt of Threskel, Yusendre, and Skouloun from the Nimbral Lords.[2]

- What remains of the Netherese battle the Bedine for control of Anauroch.[3]
- A battle between the Netherese and Bedine upon the Memory Spire (an ancient phaerimm tomb) awakens dormant phaerimm.[3]
1488 DR in environment
- The solstices and equinoxes do not align correctly[3] starting with the spring equinox falling on Greengrass.[4]
- As the long winter of the previous year ends, it pushes back the start of all other seasons.[4]
- Anauroch is magically drained by newly awakened phaerimm, again reducing it to a desert.[3]
- Abeir fully separates from Toril.[4]
- An earthquake strikes Mount Hotenow as Maegera attempts to break free from its bonds below Gauntlgrym.[5]

- Faithful prayers to the gods for understanding and mercy appear to go unheard.[3]
- The gods only seem to send messages through their Chosen.[3]
1488 DR in politics
- The Alliance of Luruar begins to fall apart.[3]
- Sembia is now free of Thultanthar and its city-states form a tentative alliance with each other to restore their nation's sovereignty.[3]
- Aside from a handful of minor settlements throughout Faerûn, the Netherese empire is no longer a regional power.[3]
