649 DR in conflicts
- Above and below ground, vast hordes of orcs engulf the dwarf realm of Roldilar, the Realm of Glimmering Swords.[1][2][3] Drow also strike from the subterranean ways.[4] Deep King Tuir Stonebeard leads the dwarven armies against those of the orcs and goblins, but they are defeated at Viperstongue Ford. Roldilar's defenses are broken, and the dwarves retreat to Mount Grimmerfang.[5][2] This ends in the bloody, 20-day-long Battle of Deepfires beneath the mountain, and the fall of Roldilar.[5][2][6][7]
- Human and elven allies save the Roldilarren dwarves from total extinction.[1] The elven warrior Beluar and his forces rout the orcs at Viperstongue Ford, then pursue them through the hills later known as Beluar's Hunt and into the village of Maskyr's Eye to slay the last orc.[8][5][9]
Migrations in 649 DR
- Dwarven refugees of Roldilar retreat, going east, south over the seas, and to hidden, isolated communities still surviving in the Vast.[1][2] Several clans flee into the Earthspur Mountains.[7] Others, particularly craftsfolk and noncombatants migrate to Myth Drannor in Cormanthyr.[6][7]
- The dwarves leave the Vast to the humans, who stay to fight the orcs while more keep arriving. Thus the Vast passes entirely into human hands.[1][2][7]
