A Merchant's Tale was a book written by Jarn Tiir of Lantan in the late 13th century DR.[2]
“
Always we hurry through our lives, we who travel. Only folk tied to the land wait for danger to come to them. All others blunder ever onward, swords at the ready, through many meetings–and each may be the last, for in the wilds only the dragon waits for his meals to walk into him. The wolf, the orc, the gorgon hunt and smile much when they meet dinner. What is more dangerous even than these? Why, any man you meet.

History[]
A Merchant's Tale was a collection of life lessons and musings published in the Year of the Smoky Moon, 1287 DR. The work shared some insights into the nature of those who lived to travel and the lesson that a human was more dangerous than any monster waiting in the wild.[2] A copy of the book was kept in the great fortress-library of Candlekeep as of the Year of Wild Magic, 1372 DR.[1]
