Aeon was a goliath spymaster of unknown affiliation who operated out of the City of Splendors, Waterdeep, under the guise of a master tinkerer and a tavernkeep of the Greenhow tavern in the North Ward in the late 15th century DR.[2][1]
Description[]
By the age of thirty-two winters, Aeon was a massive goliath woman of extremely eccentric appearance. She had brown skin, splotched with vitiligo pigmentation. She had icy blue-gray eyes and hair of the matching color, gathered in chaotic, thick braids, and decorated with golden loops. She wore a top hat and a garb of leather straps, glowing crystals, moving gears, all atop a ruffled gown, a corset, and a coat.[2][1]
Personality[]
By some accounts, Aeon was a woman of exceptional intellect and charm.[2]
Abilities[]
She was an experienced artillerist artificer and a bard, having studied in the College of Whispers. She created automatons that were used to maintain the Greenhow tavern.[2][1]
Possessions[]
Aeon was accompanied by her automaton monkey she named Deuce. As an offensive device, Aeon carried an antimatter blasting cane and had a mechanical pseudodragon at the ready. Among other enchanted items in her hands, the spymistress wore a top hat of telepathy, Bigby's beneficient bracelet, and a magic music box called cosmic wind-up. Her eccentric gown was also enchanted.[2]
Activities[]
As the mistress of Greenhow, Aeon made a name for herself as a flamboyant entertainer and the woman who maintained the numerous constructs that served the tavern's patrons. While appearing as a bard and a businesswoman by day, Aeon weaved a network of spies and informants across Waterdeep. The mechanical devices and curios she crafted were always embedded with sending stones and sold or gifted to the wealthiest households in the North Ward.[2] She frequented the Temple of Knowledge, a temple to Oghma in Waterdeep.[1]
Relationships[]
Bregan D'aerthe agents frequented Aeon's tavern; however, according to the spymaster's official statement, the group simply liked the establishment and in no way, shape, or form was affiliated with Aeon. The spymistress employed a murder of six kenku, who watched and listened to the numerous sending stones scattered across the district, all tucked away in the hidden chambers underneath Greenhow. Two of them were named Cricket and Beaky.[1]
History[]
Aeon hailed from somewhere else. When she first arrived at the City of Splendors, she did not have aspirations of spycraft and manipulation, and she was still going by her birth name for several decades. Several years later, by the late 15th century DR, now known as Aeon, she had already established a spy network and was renowned for her ever-popular tavern called Greenhow in the North Ward.[1]
One day in the late 15th century DR, Alister Harlow, an Aumarr of the Waterdhavian Guard paid Greenhow a visit, alongside a magister, investigating a murder. One of Aeon's music boxes was found on the victim, the tiefling named Xev Karshar, of the Xanathar's Thieves' Guild. Just the night prior, Aeon made sure that a music box he purchased had a sending stone installed inside. Thanks to the kenku spies who were listening in on the magic stone, Aeon discovered the culprit's name—Sliver Thornheart.[1] Aeon brokered the information about the murder to the Xanathar and later joined Umberto Thornheart, the murderer's brother, in apprehending the criminal.[3][4]
