Allspice, also called pimento[1] or everry, was an expensive spice produced by a berry-bearing bush.[2]
Availability[]
In the Cormyrean city of Gladehap, Wyrmkindler Sausage Works used one thruppinch of allspice berries per 4 pounds (1.8 kilograms) of stag meat in preparation for their ever-popular stag sausages.[2]
Elves of the ancient city of Myth Drannor in the forest of Cormanthor were quite fond of allspice-seasoned pumpkin soup. A single whiff of the soup evoked memories of a legend about Aerdrie Faenya, which told of her transforming the heads of slain orcs into pumpkins. The story symbolized elves using orcs' heads more effectively than they ever did themselves.[5]
Bakers of the wizardly nation of Halruaa used sugar, cardamom, mace, and allspice mixture to dust freshly fried sweet buns and hangman's nooses.[6]
Dwarves of the Northkingdom used allspice to prepare sweet, savory, and spicy Tide-Me-Overs.[7]
Allspice, or pimento, was sold across the Realms via Aurora's Whole Realms Catalogue, priced at 40 gold pieces per 1 ounce (28 grams).[1]
On the Malatran Plateau in Kara-Tur, allspice was used as a pickling spice, together with mustard seeds, black peppercorns, red chiles, cloves, allspice, coriander, ginger, and mace.[4]
Usages[]
Allspice berries could be used to create enchanted oil that could improve one's strength.[8] A vial of such oil could cost up to 750 gp.[9]
History[]
In the Year of Wild Magic, 1372 DR, Gravia's hot apple cider, prepared by Gravia Maxillian of Daggerford's farmlands, called for two allspice berries per pot. Secretly a werewolf, Gravia drugged her cider with Zakharan knockout drops to capture unwitting travelers to be hunted by her bloodthirsty family.[3]
