Queen Amlaruil Moonflower (sometimes known as The Sad Queen after the loss of her husband King Zaor Moonflower) is a moon elf[1], and the ruler of the elven island of Evermeet. She lives in the Moonstone Palace above the city of Leuthilspar[2] and is more than 700 years old.[3] She is believed to have reached total harmony and understanding with the universe, something which no other elf has achieved, and when faced with the choice of joining Corellon Larethian, the Seldarine, and, ultimately, her lost husband, in Arvandor or staying behind, she chose to stay behind with her people.[4] Thus, she is a chosen of the entire Seldarine pantheon, expanding her already considerable power. As of the 1400s, she is now gone, and her throne stands empty. [5]

Family

While her parents are never named, Amlaruil does have an older brother, Giullio, who preferes solitary study.[6] Her first child was Ilyrana, a priestess of Angharradh.[7] The princess was followed by twins, Zhoron and Xharlion, trained as fighters.[8] Chozzaster was born after Amlaruil and Zaor wed, and dedicated himself to magic.[8] Shandalar followed, and chose the path of the Bladesinger.[9] Next came twins Tira'allera and Hhora who trained as priestess to Hanali Celanil.[9] Another set of female twins by the names of Lazzier and Gemstarzah followed.[9] Many years later four more joined the family. First was Amnestria, who loved the life of the solitary adventurer.[10] Zandro and Finufaranell took to the mages life and studied in the Towers.[10] Last was Lamruil , a mischievous young man.[10]

The fate of her children is a sad tale. Either Zhoron or Xharlion were devoured by the Elf-Eater, as the other's fate is unknown, both may have met this end.[11] Lazziar and Gemstarzah vanished whilst on a diplomatic mission.[11] Chozzaster died young.[11] While Shandalar died accidentaly during her bladesinger training.[11] Tira'allera entered into a disasterous relationship with a noble elf, and like died of heart break; Hhora married a chance met commoner and disappeared into Faerun.[11] Ilyrana later took the Elf-Eater to Arvandor in the hopes of defeating it, it's unknown if she ever returned.[12] What became of Zandro and Finufaranell is unknown, their never mentioned a part from that they exist. Lamruil, despite his early habits, sucessfully drew the King Sword.[13] Upon Amaruil's return to Evermeet, he felt to build a kingdom in the distant north.[14]

Status

Amlaruil is regarded so highly in the society of Evermeet that works of art, poems and songs are dedicated to her second only to the Seldarine.[15]

Powers and possessions

She is able to teleport any approaching ships miles away from the island[16] using the Accumulator, a magical scepter that stores magical energy, crafted by Voorhi Durothil, the son of High Councilor Rolim Durothil and High Mage Ava Moonflower.[citation needed] She possesses the magical sword Tahlshara[17] and the Chalice of Labelas,[18] two of the three Great Treasures of Evermeet.

Accommodation

Although the queen spends much of her time in the Moonstone Palace, she has a second home called the Summer Palace, in the centre of the Lake of Dreams.[19]

The "Sad Queen"

Amlaruil earned this nickname when her husband and former king, Zaor, was murdered, and continues her life in a state of mourning.[20][3]

Trivia

  • Amlaruil often gets her clothes from Shael the clothier in Leuthilspar.[21]
