Anauria was one of a small number of cities of Netheril that survived Karsus's Folly. Afterwards, it grew into a kingdom. Nevertheless, it was eventually swallowed up by the growing Anauroch desert.[1]

Description[edit | edit source]
Anauria was one of Netheril's famed flying cities.[4] It was famous for the craftsmanship of its swords and for its magic,[5] and after the fall of Netheril, it became the richest of the three surviving states, collectively known as the Lost Kingdoms.[2]
Geography[edit | edit source]
The capital city of Anauria was Amazandar, which was located west of the Desertsmouth Mountains. The city of Anauril was located northeast of Amazandar and west of modern Shadowdale. Helvara was located south of Lake Miir and was the center of Anauria's agricultural activity.[2]
Government[edit | edit source]
Anauria was a human-ruled kingdom.[2]
Population[edit | edit source]
The Lost Kingdom of Anauria was inhabited by humans, elves, and half-elves. Those among the upper classes enjoyed such diversions as hunting, and the lower classes produced vast quantities of grain to export to the lands around the Sea of Fallen Stars.[2]
The noble houses of Anauria were
- House Maluradek;
- House Nemrin;
- House Nyntynel, an elven house;
- House Olyrnn, an elven house; and
- House Thardresk, the royal house.[2]
History[edit | edit source]
After Karsus's Folly in −339 DR,[6] the goddess Mystra was able to slow the fall of Anauria so that it could settle safely on the earth.[4][7] The city—along with Asram and Hlondath—then survived for hundreds of years before the desert finally encompassed it.[8][5] In 111 DR, the city was sacked by a horde of orcs, from which it never seemed able to recover.[3][2]
