Anointed knights were holy warriors who used alchemical secrets to become formidable combatants.[1]

Wielding an ancestral weapon, they searched for obscure lore, consulted historians and alchemists, and communed with the powers of good. Their combat prowess was matched only by their thirst for knowledge. Anointed knights crafted and drew power from potions and oils. They could anoint themselves with these oils to unlock supernatural abilities within their being. They could also anoint their weapon bestowing additional properties.[1]

Anointed knights were usually fighters or paladins who combined their power with an arcane spellcasting class, usually sorcerer or wizard. More rarely they were single-class wizards, sorcerers, clerics, or bards.[1]

Regardless of background, they often befriended more knowledgeable arcane spellcasters and allied themselves with good outsiders like angels and eladrin.[1]

Anointed knights believed in crusades against evil and enjoyed taking the fight to their opponents. They were a natural foe of warriors of darkness and blackguards, though they did share one trait with them: a certain lack of subtlety. An anointed knight generally preferred to go head-to-head with the enemy rather than work behind the scenes.[2]
