Antelopes were a species of a herd animal.[1]
Behavior[]
Antelopes would normally flee from danger, but attack if cornered.[1]
Species[]
- Gazelle
- A species of antelope that were predominant in the region of Anauroch,[4] parts of Zakhara,[5] such as around the Oasis of the Golden Falcon,[6] and on the Malatran Plateau they could be found in the Rayana Savannah and the Yaku Plains.[7] In Kara-Tur they could be found in its steppelands.[8]
- Verrick
- A species of antelope that were striped like a zebra and indigenous to the Arnaden region.[9]
Ecology[]
Habitats[]
Antelopes were known to inhabit much of the region of Anauroch, especially the Fallen Giant Rift,[10][11] the Sword, and Saiyaddar.[12] In West Faerûn, they could be found in the hilly grasslands surrounding the city-state of Cursrah.[13]
Beyond Faerûn, they inhabited the savannahs of Chult, with some smaller species inhabiting the region's jungles.[14] They could also be found on the lowest levels of the Katakoro Plateau,[15] on the Malatran Plateau,[16] the Pasocada Basin of Maztica,[17] and in the Zakhara region's Crowded Sea, on the island chain of Nada al-Hazan.[18]
Beyond the Prime Material plane, both antelopes and gazelles could be found on the plane of Olympus.[19]
Relationships[]
Antelopes were one of the primary animals hunted by wemics.[20] They were also commonly the prey of cheetahs, leopards, wild dogs, and jungle giants.[21]
Hybsils were often on good terms with antelopes.[22]
Usages[]
In Zakhara, it was quite common among the Al-Badia's men to carry coffee around inside a decorative bag made from gazelle skin. Owning one was viewed as symbolic of a man's willingness to be a good host.[23]

Notes[]
- ↑ The 2nd edition alignment given in the original source is "Nil", which should be read as Neutral according to this Sage Advice answer by Skip Williams in Dragon Magazine Issue #155: "The nil alignment rating is a holdover from an early draft of the Monstrous Compendium material. Originally, a rating of nil indicated that a creature was not intelligent enough to have an alignment at all. However, the nil rating was dropped during rewriting and should have been replaced with the neutral alignment."
