The Lord Bareldur slain at the Council of Dragons in 1479 DR was Lord Montror Bareldur, a stiffnecked traditionalist (conservative) with a good heart and a firm loyalty to the Dragon Throne and the lands that were his (the Tun Shores, on the north side of where the River Tun flows into the Dragonmere) and the ranchers, herders, and smallcrofters who dwelt in them. He was in his sixth decade, graying at the temples, white of moustache and gravel of voice. He was the eighth Lord Bareldur.
His wife was the often silent, often patient tall “ice queen” (the unjust reputation she wore because of her self control) Lady Asmrae Bareldur. She took care of the family finances and daily running of all things, steering her husband deftly, and was heartbroken when he died. She followed him to the grave in 1482, leaving three grown Bareldurs: the eldest daughter and now head of the family, Lady Narnathra Bareldur, is fully as capable and worldly-wise as her mother was; she favors short “helm” haircuts, practising with two swords daily, and investing in the rebuilding Sembia to enrich the family coffers (so far, thanks to her shrewdness, with great success). She’s only seen in gowns at weddings.
Narnathra has a common-birth husband, the bearded, weathered-faced retired seacaptain Varkander Heldruth (now courtesy-styled “Lord Bareldur” but he daily defers to his wife by inclination), and they have two young daughters, Maereenra and Braeryl (both old Bareldur family given names). Narnathra and Varkander are steadfast and affecionate partners, but Narnathra also has two constant companions (who are also her lovers), Lady Laeyalane Tantorn and Lady “Cat” Cathone Ravenhill (both merry, spirited young Cormyrean noblewomen).
The Bareldur family seat is their mansion and farm, Windcrag House, but they spend most of their time at the their more modest mansion in Suzail (Heldartowers, a name they inherited from the wealthy, non-noble family they purchased it from; Vaerendur Heldar now dwells in Marsember) in the city block just east of the Horngate (so, north of the west end of the Promenade). It’s a dark stone and tile-roofed tall pile with leaded windows and no grounds—and neighbours say it’s a quiet household. Windcrag House is home to some splendid riding horses, a few foul-tempered goats, and hundreds of sheep, who quite outnumber the dozen-some servants.
