Barkskin was a druid evocation and a transmutation or alteration spell that toughened the skin to a bark-like consistency.[3][4][11][12][13] [14]

Effects[]

Barkskin toughened the skin of the creature touched, giving it natural armor.[3][4][11][12][13] In general, the quality of the armor improved the higher the caster's power.[4][11][12][13] The barkskin evocation drew upon the caster's constitution for the strength of the armor—a tougher caster could bestow tougher armor.[3] The spell would not stack with any other effect that increased natural armor.[4][11][12][13]

Components[]

The post-Second Sundering version[14] and some older versions of this spell required some bark from an oak tree in addition to the verbal and somatic components.[11][12][13] All versions of the spell (but not the evocation) required the use of the caster's holy symbol or divine focus.[4][11][12][13] The post Sundering version had no need to focus or symbols.[14]

History[]

It was recorded in Yornar's Trail Companion, a holy text of the church of Mielikki.[15]
