Berkthgar was a Reghedman barbarian from the Tribe of the Elk of Icewind Dale who served as the chieftain of Settlestone in the mid-to-late 14th century DR.[5]

Description[]

The barbarian chieftain had wild brown hair, which fell across his strong shoulders. Berkthgar had muscles the size of dwarf thighs and stood 6 foot 6 inches (1.98 meters).[3] To add to his imposing presence, the huge human had strikingly blue eyes.[1]

Personality[]

As leader of Settlestone, Berkthgar lived in the shadow of Wulfgar and wanted Aegis-fang to demonstrate to his people he was the rightful chieftain of the Tribe of the Elk.[3] He was set in his ways and viewed the dwarves and the residents of the Ten Towns as enemies. He was also "stymied by strong women," namely Catti-brie [6]

Possessions[]

When in battle, Berkthgar used a great flamberge called Bankenfuere the Northern Fury and wore a fur covered jerkin. The huge 4-foot-long (1.2 meters) sword rested in a leather sheath over his right shoulder.[7]

History[]

Berkthgar was the son of Beothgin.[6]

In the Year of the Prince, 1357 DR,[8] Berkthgar was an emissary between Settlestone and Mithral Hall who interacted with King Bruenor.[5] In the Year of Shadows, 1358 DR, Drizzt Do'Urden and Catti-brie traveled to Settlestone to resolve a disagreement Berkthgar had with Bruenor Battlehammer over Wulfgar's warhammer, Aegis-fang.[3]
