The Black Ash Plains are located west of Unther in East Faerûn.[1]
History
In 1373 DR, a lot of refugees from the Untheric - Mulhorandi conflict ran through the plain. The ones that got out alive say saw several ruined structures jutting up from the blackened earth. Survivors state these ruins exist below the surface of the ground, but no one has explored or proven that these subterranean levels even exist.[2] When the Spellplague happened in 1385 DR, this wasteland, south of Tymanther, was devastated when Tymanchebar fell into Toril.[3]
Geography
Only sparse grass and twisted shrubs grow on the plain and strange rock formations shift and move around the landscape on their own.[3] Many mysteries surround this dark land, which is blackened and infertile, so much even the Mulhorandi army avoids it.[1]
Inhabitants
Named for the volcanic black ash always falling from the Smoking Mountains to the north, the plains are home to dark skinned stone giants, regionally called ash giants and brown dragons.[2]
