Blast jewel was a spell that could only be cast by dragons.[1]
Effects[]
This spell allowed a dragon to enchant a gem. Once enchanted, the gem was thrown into a target area and exploded, saturating the area with razor-sharp shrapnel. Everything within a 20 feet (6.1 meters) radius of the blast was vulnerable to the shrapnel. The dragon was also able to set off the explosion from afar, even a great distance. The blast could be contained if the gem was placed in a strong container such as a chest. If the gem detonated inside a bag of holding or a portable hole, the blast destroyed anything within.[1]
The spell was often used by dragons to booby-trap their treasure hordes. They would cast this spell on several gems, and when they noticed one was missing, would activate the gem.[1]
Casting[]
In addition to verbal and somatic components, the spell required a material component, a gemstone. The gem had to have a value of at least 500 gp. The gem could not be embedded in another item.[1]
During casting, the dragon used their claw to trace an invisible glyph into the gem. This glyph was only visible to the dragon. A detect magic spell would reveal the enchantment, and detect invisibility or true seeing would reveal the actual glyph.[1]
