The dragons and their kindred species are among the most innately magical and biologically complex creatures of the Material plane, but their reclusiveness and, in the case of many species, rarity, has prevented any major taxonomic work on the group. This article seeks to rectify that by examining the internal taxonomic relations of the dragonkind. Undead dragons are not treated here, as they are by their nature not independent species at all but non-living things created from the bodies of other species. This article also relies more on environmental, magical, and otherwise biologica…
also technically Tiamat's avatar The Undying Queen but i did a google search and can't find any information so and TIamat is a goddess so it is a bit of a gray area

The Forgotten Realms is riddled with adventures. They vary from the official, grand stories (Elemental Evil, Tyranny of Dragons) that can fill a whole campaign. To large, blockbuster tales (Dead in Thay, Scourge of the Sword Coast) which are ideal for running multiple sessions. Last but not least, the small adventures of which you may never have heard of (Vainglorious, King of the Wolves), that can be used for a single session to mix things up. It can be a daunting task to navigate the Forgotten Realms, and choose the right adventure for your party. This article is created to help you get a better sense of what is avail…
A friend recently invited me to a homebrew campaign and told me I'm free to use whatever race I'd like. Me being me, I made a Drider character. Or at least, I've tried to. I've spent a good amount of time searching through google, and I can't find anything that says if Driders meditate (like Drow do), sleep normally, or just don't rest at all. Anyone able to enlighten me or point me towards a good source?
Thanks in advance, Yolo
So I was recently playing Tomb of Annihilation as a dwarf fighter with my group, and we were rowing towards the giant earthen heart-shaped island that is floating in Chult. As we were rowing, we saw a little bit of land with this flower and a dwarf-looking figure on it. We went up to the island, quickly found out it the dwarf was a zombie, and killed it, but not before the zombie dealt 5 damage to me, reducing me to 30 health.
I didn't really take any concern with this, but as I was preparing to see how far I could hit the zombie's head with my warhammer (to have a little bit of fun), the flower (yellow musk flower) started to move towards me. My character had encountered a living plant before in the campaign, so I just decided to go smack …
Not sure if these get read, but just in case.
Hi, my name is Trey, and I'm an old gamer in New Mexico.
In May 2020 I asked Ed Greenwood via Twitter if he had any information current or historical on the north eastern lands of the 5th edition map of the Sword Coast, and he replied that he would look into it. On June 14th 2020, Ed answered me:
In two long threads, Ed recounted much of the lore of that area from Dungeon Magazine 170, but he also added and embellished pieces of information- about the Abbey Mountains and other places. I aspired to add what i could to the wikia using his words as a guide, as i have gained much form usi…
Salutations gamers, I'm making this blog post as an inquiry of sorts. I noticed quite a while ago that the Pale Night article was in need of some cleanup. Of course, there are many articles on the wiki in need of cleanup, but this one has caught my eye. I was wondering if anyone has any idea of where I or somebody else could find information on Pale Night.
I looked at the Further Reading section of the article and checked out the links. Judging by the lack of citation and information in the article, I'm guessing that she was mentioned offhandedly in Fiendish Codex I: Hordes of the Abyss or in the books mentioned in Further Reading. That's just a guess though. The amount of uncited information gets me a little sad and my goal is to find sour…
Ok so I only come to this wiki to read articles or get ideas but here is a list of undead creatures I think are the most interesting (combining some of them could be interesting as well);
Caller in darkness
Angel of decay
OK, so the first D&D movie didn't do so well, and the rest are just average or below average direct to vid b movies. But D&D is coming back to the big screen, and not alone. Hasbro is making their own cinematic universe, and D&D is one the starting roster, along with Micronaunts, G.I. Joe, and for some strange reason, My Little Pony. (This is going to a very strange universe) Regardless, if you were the screenwriter for the first D&D film, and you are an expert in the lore of Forgotten Realms, what movie could you make out of it, and how would you tweak it to coexist the lore of the other 3 franchises I have listed?
Salutations gamers, today I finished working on the Pollus Windscreamer article! I was reading up on Jangling Hiter and noticed that Pollus Windscreamer didn't have an article. There was enough info to write a small article on Pollus Windscreamer so that's what I did. here are the links to Pollus Windscreamer and Jangling Hiter.

Salutations gamers, I forgot to mention something. My wiki edit was on Jangling Hiter. I found that the 3rd paragraph of the Geography section had a grammatical error so I patched it up! That is all.
Salutations gamers, as of today, Tuesday, October 15, 2019, I've written my first wiki edit! That's all.
I think my understanding of Forgotten Realms, and of the concept of fantasy as a whole, is steadily improving and increasing.
I realize more than ever before that any one fantasy role-playing game/rules system, setting, etc. is just one possible intrepretation of fantasy. Other fantasy games, rules systems, settings, etc. may be very different. The same terms may mean very different things in different games, settings, etc.. Different terms in different games, settings, etc. may mean the same thing or something similar.
Hi anyone who may be reading this!
I don't normally share blogs but over the last year I have really gotten into listening to D&D podcasts. I used to drive a lot for a living and cycled through a dozen or so, including Critical Hit, Drunks & Dragons and a few others before stumbling upon Dungeons & Randomness. Even after getting into Critical Role recently (thank you Sirwhiteout!) they are still my hands-down favorite group to listen to!
Right now they're in the middle of a Kickstarter to fund their upcoming setting book. While they have 10 days to go, and are completely funded, their loyal fanbase is doing what they can to keep adding to the stretch goals in the final week-plus of the campaign.
I just want to share this amazingly creative an…
I didnt know what to talk about but Glamdrin Silverthorn who I have run 3 games for.
Okay, before I got an account, I replied to johnnyriot999 on Powergamertiamatfan's blog on the new book teaser. Yes, I am the author. Powergamertiamatfan is my friend and editor, and we are also D & D buddies. I am on my nineth campain, which is impressive, really, seeing as I played eight campains over the course of two weeks, and am already writing a D & D book. just putting it all out there as my first post.
don't mean to brag about any of my feats, just clarifying.
Noble Druid Archer
Long Ago, in the towering fortress of the new generation of the Wood Elves, upon a valiant throne of carven oak, sat him. Glamdrin Silverthorn, a Wood Elf of noble background, was the prince, the next king in the line. As the son of the great woodland king, he knew it was his responsibility to keep his respectability, nobility, and to govern his people alongside his father. But now, he was alone. He was the one who would have had to govern his people. But his father was gone.
Just before the death of his father he had decided to abandon his position, and go looking for a new life as an adventurer. His father was angry, and banished him. His father called him back when the Orcs attempted to …

So me and my friend were reading The Canticle by R.A. Salvatore and we stumbled upon some very subtext section in Danicas room. Now that girl Cadderly wants to mary they had just kissed and it wasn't like they didn't like eachother so when he said no I was like" what the (censored)" I need to get mental help. He would kill for her and the he said" nope, I need to see Dean Thobicus" just please tell me what you think and read the book.
Hi its power gamer Tia Mat fan here and I was thinking about some creepy monsters and I was just wondering what you awesome D&D gamers thought.

This is part 2 of a 2-post series that started here, as a result of a very interesting discussion with Lhynard and Moviesign about the gravity and composition of Coliar.
Coliar is a gas giant. As a size G spherical air body, it is about the size of Jupiter. How then could it have an Earth-like gravity and even be inhabitable all the way to its core? Jupiter has an enormous mass and an equally enormous gravity. Moreover, it has a very narrow range of altitudes at which the pressure allows for the survival of humanoids. Below that, its crushing pressures mean certain death to all but the sturdiest of xorns.
The easy to tackle question regards Coliar's gravity. From the previous post, one surmises that a G-sized air body would have a surface gr…
This is part 1 of 2-post series that is the result of a very interesting discussion with Lhynard and Moviesign on a realistic way to calculate the gravity of celestial bodies based on their size and elemental composition.
In Spelljammer: AD&D Adventures in Space, it is stated that all celestial bodies have a gravity of 1 "Earth" gravity, regardless of size and composition. What if one wants to do better? Say, only spelljammers have a gravity of 1 g as an effect of the magic of their Spelljamming helms, but planets and other celestial objects are subject to the laws of Physics. How to proceed?
The following is a very basic estimate of how this calculation could be carried out, with the results organized on a table for easy reference to the rea…
As some of you may have noticed, I have been absent from the community for a number of weeks.
This is due to a combination of an increased work-load, a death in the family, and we had to repair some minor flooding damage.
My schedule goes back to normal in a week or two, so I'll be back making edits and contributions!

Lately I haven't been able to contribute to the wiki as often as I'd like. Real life concerns tend to be… distracting sometimes.
But with a bit of free time available, I decided to write up a more detailed analysis of the astronomical properties of Realmspace. As a theoretical physicist specialized in gravitational physics and currently teaching Astronomy, I feel it is quite tempting to try to make some "early-astronomy" sense of the several celestial bodies and their movements in wildspace.
This is a follow-up on a recent discussion with Lhynard about the possible distance of the Color Spray Nebula from the sun. As far as I know, it is not stated in any official sources, but, as in the case of Neptune and Uranus in Earth's crystal sphere, m…
I read them as they were published back in the 90's, and I figured it was a good time to re-read them. I forgot how enjoyable of a read they are. Will be adding content as I go.
I haven't written one of these things in a long time, but I feel the need to right now (insomnia helps).
I've been living in a bad place for just over seven years now. Because therapy did very little to help my depression caused mostly from living in that situation, I threw myself into work to distract myself from it instead.
Nowadays I run my own gaming club, act as a political commentator, do tech support work at my local library, help to build homes for people on low incomes, and do community outreach for local elderly people. I also moderate the biggest Forgotten Realms community on Facebook (but turned down administering it as there simply isn't enough time in the day). When I wasn't working, I was sleeping or travelling to work (someti…
I got sidetracked because my asthma problems and certain videogame... lol, but "I have come upon the Earth and with my two feet taken possession!". Going to resume updating Laerakond stuff and the other topics I were updating.

Life's been crazy hell and I haven't had the chance to return to work on the articles that I'd been fleshing out, most notably the one for The Jewel of Turmish. I hope to be able to return to finishing it up, polishing it, and making it as finalized as possible.
I haven't been playing D&D for very long. When I started 5e hadn't yet come out, but it would be soon, and I looked mostly into 4e. Then when I started talking to people there were many different opinions about which edition was the best. What edition do any of you think is the best for the Forgotten Realms? --Zerazzt (talk) 21:21, February 24, 2017 (UTC)
Just managed to get my grubby little mitts on almost all of the back-issues of Polyhedron magazine save for #9. I had several of them before but now I have access to pretty much every piece of Realmslore held within.
I'm supposed to also be getting a new laptop tomorrow that should actually be capable of running my copy of Sword Coast Legends that I've not been able to play since I got it as a Christmas present. I have started on Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear already however - it's good, if a bit buggy. The new User Interface has some problems and the AI of some enemies and NPCs leaves a lot to be desired but I'm sure that will be sorted in the first couple of rounds of patches.
I've also kept involved with tabletop gaming. I've been c…
Rikker takes in the scene around him. THe crisp cold morning air. THe sound of morning larks chirping away in the distance. Even the smell of blood on the wind didn't excite him in the slightest. Slowly emerging from the rock dwelling he has called home, The great brown bear stretches each of his long limbs. He knew that nothing could challenge him; he had grown complacent in past years. No one ever dared poach on his lands. The heards of elk and cattle were his and his alone to devour. He would have been correct as usual, in his arrogance, save for a lonely wolf. The wolf didn't sleep all winter long. In fact, she was planning on moving further north for the warmer seasons. Her white fur stood in contrast to the fresh morning flo…
By researching the history of the Forgotten Realms, I mean both from a real world (writing) and an in-universe perspective.
Researching the history of Halflings has gotten into territory that is probably controversial and that I'd really rather not get into on here.
So today I had my first time as a DM and well here is the story so far.
In early Uktar in the deepest of night a ship travelled towards
Baldur's Gate, stopping far away from the harbour and letting the
travels travel in to the city by raft.
As the raft ended it journey, the old sailor whom had taken them there asked for a silver coin with his sea salted hand.
His face lit up as he was given 4 silver coins, he helped his travels off the boat and then limped of the nearest tavern.
The travellers steeped in to the cold Balduran night:
A Dragonborn Barbarian, a Human Paladin of Tyr, a Forest Gnome Monk, A Human fighter, A Human Wizard(/cleric), A Wood elf ranger...
The grey docks stood empty of life but filled with songs of the sea. The party trave…
Absolutely love it. Not only does it point out your mistakes as you make them but it also has a 'save as you type' function. I was just working on an article when the laptop I was using suddenly crashed. Thinking I'd lost all of what I'd done, I was pleasantly surprised to see almost all of what I'd written was still there when I booted back up.
Don't have much time so this'll have to be brief.
My recent articles were the product of a short period of good net access which is now gone. This is particularly awkward because a buddy of mine is running a campaign set in the Utter East and western Kara-Tur so I was hoping I could add relevant content on his areas of interest. Instead, I may have to loan him some of my sourcebooks which will be difficult to transport without borrowing someone's car.
Otherwise, I'm super busy and not being paid enough. Same old, same old.
So now I have the starter set, Players handbook and the Monster manual and I feel like there are great adventures ahead even if I'm as always nervous of screwing up. I wonder when they will release a Forgotten realms Players/DM's handbook? These books seam to have a big focus on TFR which is allot of fun but teasing... I have never really blogged before so this is going to be rambling... as every thing else I do.
I find allot of things interesting, even if I haven't read the entire thing, the halflings have now 2 main races Strongheart and Lightfoot.. I hope we dont lose the ghostwise. Clerics have six domains now and that puts the say 20+ domains of older versions into a awkward... On that note maybe we should make a 4e domains thingy and …
So my contract with the library ended in July. I really enjoyed working there but they couldn't renew it. This meant that I lost access to a regular Wi-Fi connection.
I do have a new job but it doesn't afford me the freedom of the last one (though it's more interesting). This means that I have about half an hour of time on the internet per day with which I have to fit all of my internet activity into - no time left for editing. My best estimates show that things won't start looking up on the internet front for another eleven months.
Everybody I discuss my lack of internet with remarks at first with surprise, then they comment on its ridiculousness and finally with commiserations.
I hate having to apologise for my lack of activity but what els…
