Bows are an archer's weapon. It is the favored tool of elves but employed by most surface dwelling races. They come in various sizes.
Bows come in a variety of different sizes such as shortbows and longbows that can be as tall as the wielder. Often the price of a bow is greater than the price of a sword, and there is the added cost of arrows to be used as ammunition.
Bows are the primary weapon of an archers and are sometimes used by rogues or rangers. Kobolds, such as those near the mines of Nashkel, use bows. Bows can have magic properties, such as Taulmaril, the bow of Catti-brie.
The bow is a range weapon but it can also be used in melee.

One of the biggest problems facing any archer is deciding what to do when a foe gets within melee reach. Elf bowyers craft bows that can stand up to melee combat. Thanks to elven ingenuity, these weapons work just as well as melee weapons as they do as ranged weapons. An elvencraft bow is thicker and heavier than a normal bow.
