Burlmarr was a gnomish inhabitant of Ieirithymbul in the mid-to-late 14th century DR. He had budding psionic powers.[3]

Abilities[]

Burlmarr was developing some powers as a wilder. He sometimes saw through another's eyes, and sometimes heard instead, in a manner akin to sense link.[3] Another power he displayed was hearing what was likely surface thoughts, akin to a read thoughts power.[1] He also managed to shut down someone's senses once, in a manner akin to the brain lock power.[2]

Relationships[]

Burlmarr lived with his mother[3] and father.[4] He was an apprentice to a local jeweler, Master Thintagast. One of his fellow apprentices was called Ambrythynn.[1] In their brief time together, he came to see Palarandusk, a local gold dragon, as a friend; for whatever reason, their senses often came to be linked during his dreams.[2]

History[]

In Uktar of the Year of the Gauntlet, 1369 DR, Burlmarr began to have dreams where he witnessed things from the perspective of a certain dragon, seeing himself protect gnomes of his community and slaying those who would harm them. In some dreams he only saw, and in some dreams he only heard; those dreams constantly made him extremely sick.[3] About a month after those dreams began, increasing in frequency as his fortieth birthday approached, Burlmarr began to hear things while practicing gem cutting, which made him wrongly believe that his fellow apprentice Ambrythynn was going to propose to Lissa Boavartarr, before passing out and hitting his head on the floor; he was sent home early.[1]

On that night or one soon after, as the trading caravan returned from Leilon, Burlmarr participated in the festivities celebrating the caravan's return. There, he was intensely ill, despite not having drunk anything yet. he began to see himself from outside; this drew the attention of the gold dragon Palarandusk, known in Ieirithymbul as the Unseen Protector, who invited him to talk outside the village, and introduced itself.[4] During their conversation, Palarandusk theorized Burlmarr's sicknesses were a result of him developing wilder psionic powers, and these linkings to be the effect of some of the spells that had been cast on the dragon ages prior. Burlmarr managed to return home a few hours before sunrise, and sneak inside to sleep. However, when he slept, he shared in Palarandusk's vision and noticed he was trapped in some strange magic, with a strange old man in front of him.[2]

He got out of bed, and immediately ran out to try and help Palarandusk, whom he viewed as a friend. He employed a novel mental power to overwhelm one of the sentries in the trap, and managed to disturb its workings: however, the guard soon overpowered his mental attack, and fatally wounded him. Palarandusk avenged him, slaying the guard, but unfortunately had nothing that would help the gnome survive the stomach wound.[2]
