Calcium was an elemental material found in the Realms.[1]
Availability[]
In 3520 NY (−339 DR), the Elemental Store of Karsus Enclave sold pure elemental powdered calcium for 4 gp per 1 ounce (28 grams).[1]
Occurrences[]
- Limestone was made up of calcium carbonate.[2]
- Hot springs contained mineral-rich water that left deposits of calcium carbonate behind.[3]
- Gypsum was made of calcium sulfate, and created naturally-sculpted crystal flowers. Stalactites and stalagmites were made of "dripstone", calcium carbonate left behind by dripping water.[4]
- The Quasi-Elemental Plane of Minerals turned to calcium near the Elemental Plane of Water.[5]
- Animal bones and shells usually had high concentrations of calcium.[6][7]
- Nacre was a calcium-rich substance that made up pearls, mother of pearl, and some shells.[8]
- Barley grass contained extremely high amounts of calcium.[9]
- Brain coral produced a protective shell of pure calcium carbonate.[10]
- Hook horrors had a steel-tough exoskeleton strengthened with calcium.[11]
- Carnivorous plants grew in areas with poor soil minerals such as calcium.[2]
Usages[]
- Calcium was used in certain medical products.[1]
- Slakers used calcium from crushed shells to produce fire-suppressing carbon dioxide foam.[6]
- Lobster shells were rich in calcium and magnesium, and could be used as fertilizer.[7]
