Cheddar was a type of cheese.[1][2]

Try dipping that extra old cheddar into mustard... a most intriguing taste, I find.
  — Elminster Aumar[1]

This white-yellow cheese was often formed in the shape of wheels[2] or blocks.[3] It could be heated up, and emitted a potent smell. Cheddar was sometimes paired and cooked with tomatoes.[3]

The great sage, Elminster, often enjoyed eating cheddar, especially when conversing with reputable mages, such as Mordenkainen.[1][3][4]
