Chipgrin was a smart and reasonable leader. During any negotiation, Chipgrin was affable but firm in his demands. He noted the strange behavior of his "cousins" sane by lycanthropy (the wererats as bestial creatures were not afflicted by the demon lord Juiblex's madness).
During the Rage of Demons, he acknowledged the threat of the Pudding King and was considering offering the help of his people to Dorbo Diggermattock in exchange for a formal recognition that they were citizens of Blingdenstone like the others.
