The City Guard of Hiyal served as a police force within the city as well as a standing army for the "City of Intrigue".[1]

The composition of the city guard as of 1367 DR[note 1] was 8,000 infantry, 1,500 cavalry, 2,000 palace guards, 2,000 city guards, two mercenary barbarian units totaling 1,800 men, five units of mamluks totaling 5,000 men, and three units of mamluk cavalry totaling 900 men.[1]
Activities[]
Some of the command was split among the royal family, with Prince Anjar commanding the regular troops and Princess Hannah commanding the city guard. The sultana's other children had mamluk units dedicated to them as well. Sultana Alura commanded the cavalry, palace guard, and navy.[1]
