The Cragmaw Hideout was a base for the Cragmaw tribe of goblins in the Sword Coast North.[1]

Description[]

PortionNeverwinterWood

Cragmaw Hideout to the south-west.

The entrance to the cave complex was under a large hill, and had a shallow stream flowing out of it. It had four main rooms and several smaller trails linking them. There was also two large pools of water, which could be released to cause a flood. A crudely made bridge linked the room at the end of the river to the second-in-command's room, where prisoners were also kept.[1]

History[]

Circa 1491 DR,[note 1] the cave was inhabited by the Cragmaw tribe. At this point in time, they were led by the bugbear, Klarg and his second-in-command, Yeemik.[1]

Scope of Operations[]

The hideout was the setting from which the Cragmaw tribe launched efforts to harass and plunder traffic moving along the Triboar Trail or the path to Phandalin. Targetting of poorly defended caravans and travellers were common. The tribe had also been known to engage in kidnapping and hostage-taking on the High Road.

Notes[]

  1. Pages 30‒31 of Lost Mine of Phandelver describe the eruption of Mount Hotenow (1451 DR) as occurring "30 years ago", which would place the adventure in 1481 DR. When the adventure was later remade into Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk, this 30 year time frame was kept (pages 50 & 53). However, pages 103 and 179 of Acquisitions Incorporated, a source published after the former, state that the events described in the adventure happen five years after both Lost Mine of Phandelver and Princes of the Apocalypse. Since the latter is explicitly set in 1491 DR, and considering this answer by Ed Greenwood about dating the adventure, this wiki will use 1491 DR for events related to both versions of the adventure.
