Cutlasses were a type of a short and heavy sword.[4]
Description[]
Cutlasses had slightly curved blades that could either be used in a stabbing or slashing manner. They had heavy basket hilts, making it is more difficult for the wielder of a cutlass to be disarmed.[4]
