He is afraid of dragons because, although he is part dragon, his last "boss," Tymofarrar, was a white dragon. Despite his fear, however, he deeply respects the player and is very loyal to him or her. He is the only henchman who, at the closing battle of Hordes of the Underdark, can be convinced to resist Mephistopheles's attempts to sway him without the use of either a Persuade check or his True Name.

Deekin was a member of the "Dripping Fang" clang and worked under the command of Tymofarrar. His master was often entertained by Deekin's story telling and songs. Tymofarrar was also teaching Deekin the skills to become chief of the clang as well as becoming a sorcerer. However Deekin did not believe he had a place as chief and had high aspirations to leave and become a skald instead. Therefore when the opportunity had arisen, he agreed to give Drogan Droganson's apprentice the Tower Statue, a stolen artifact, in exchange for them negotiating his release from Tymofarrar. As a free kobold, Deekin took the role of henchman to the apprentice and wrote of their adventures in the Anauroch desert. He continued these adventures into the Underdark and Cania and ultimately helped the adventurer defeat the archdevil Mephistopheles.
Deekin is first met in the Neverwinter Nights expansion Shadows of Undrentide, where he has run away from his master Tymofarrar. He agrees to give the player the Tower Statue if they will talk to Tymofarrar and negotiate his release. He becomes a henchman in the Interlude, and follows the player character until the end of the game. In Hordes of the Underdark, Deekin can become a henchmen again, and is the only henchman available in all three chapters of the game. During the course of the player's adventures, Deekin can become a Red Dragon Disciple, or remain a bard. Deekin is considered to be one of the best henchmen in Hordes of the Underdark for his ability to invoke bardic spells and inflict damage if he continues the Red Dragon Disciple class.

Deekin eventually took a break from adventuring and ended up publishing books he had written about his many adventures. During this time, he ended up in Neverwinter where he opened up a shop in the merchant quarter to sell items he had acquired during his travels. His prowess and fame in the area lead to a street being named after him, Deekin's street, in Protector's Enclave within Neverwinter many years later.
In Neverwinter Nights 2, Deekin appears as a merchant in the Merchant Quarter of Neverwinter. If asked, he will move into the merchant shop in Crossroad Keep, happy to have a roof at last. The building he moves to cannot be entered in Storm of Zehir, so it is possible that in the expansion's continuity he was never invited to Crossroad Keep, or left it later.

Hordes of the Underdark it is quite possible that he ended up leaving Crossroad Keep, for they say he becomes a legendary bard and that adventures a lot on his own and sometimes back with the player.
