Defending

Defending was a weapon quality that let a magical weapon aid its wielder in defense.^[2]

Powers[]

The wielder could choose to transform the weapon's magical enhancement into a defensive barrier, making it harder for foes to hit the weapon's wielder.^[2]

Creation[]

A spellcaster needed the shield or shield of faith spells to create a weapon with this quality.^[2]

Notable Defender Weapons[]

Drizzt Do'Urden's left-hand scimitar Twinkle was a +2 defending scimitar.^[5]
Elfhost was a sentient +5 defender longsword.^[6]
Mielikki's twin Hornblades were +5 defending holy keen mighty cleaving scimitars.^[7]
Mortal Strike, the personal weapon of the scholar god Oghma, was a +5 dancing defending longsword.^[8]
The Rod of Four Moons, the personal weapon of the moon goddess Selûne, was a +5 defending disruption holy heavy mace.^[9]
An enchanted defender rapier belonged to a wizard and smith Darnarest and as of 1369 DR, was kept in the ruins of his tower, next to the book that contained the guidance of crafting similar blades - Darnarest's Guide to Enchanting Blades.^[1]
