Devastate was a common alteration spell of the southern magic tradition[note 1] that increased the strength of the caster's offensive spells.[1][2]
Effects[]
Any attack spell cast after devastate inflicted several times more damage than normal. The spell had a limited range, only targets in the caster's immediate vicinity were affected. [1][2]
Components[]
In addition to verbal and somatic components, this spell required a material component. A gold pendant with the symbol or insignia of the caster, and had to be worn around the neck for the duration of spell. The pendant had to be solid gold, a pendant made from an alloy of gold and another metal would prevent the spell from being cast. [1][2]
