Doves were a species of bird found in the Realms.
Ecology[]
Habitats[]
In northwest Faerûn, doves were quite prevalent in the North Ward of Waterdeep, so much so that they were the ward's mascot.[1]
Doves were bred in Halruaa where they were used for divination magic and to be served as popular roasted dove dish.[2]
Relationships[]
White doves were favored animals of the deities Ilmater[3] and Isis,[4] with their presence being seen as an indication of either god's presence or approval.[3][4] They were also commonly seen as familiars of con-tinh.[5]
Usages[]
Wild flying doves were used in divination magic. Random flight patterns were read in certain augury rituals. In the late 14th century DR, Procopio Septus, the Lord Mayor of Halarahh devised a way to read the future in flights of doves magically lured to his kitchen for subsequent culinary use.[2]
