Dralas was an undead human warrior and assassin from Thay in the late 15th century DR. He was a servant of Szass Tam and Sofina of the Red Wizards of Thay.[1][2]

You look older, Yendar. Must be all that foul mortal blood.
— Dralas to Xenk[3]

Description[]

Being undead, he had pallid and scarred skin. As a Thayan, he was bald with his scalp adorned with tattoos, including the mark of Szass Tam. He wore ornate black armor, and a hooded cloak to conceal himself.[1]

Possessions[]

He wielded a sword with branching blades[1] and used a spyglass and satchel.[1][4]

Abilities[]

He could ignite his sword with the spell green-flame blade.[1]

Relationships[]

Dralas was an old enemy of the Thayan paladin Xenk Yendar, with the two likely having clashed before.[1][3]

History[]

Honor Among Thieves - Sofina, Dralas, and Blackwood

Sofina and Dralas meet and share their secret plans.

In Neverwinter in the late 1490s DR,[note 1] Sofina sent for Dralas and his band of six fellow warriors after she discovered the wild shaped Doric spying on her and Forge Fitzwilliam in Castle Never. Arriving by boat on the Neverwinter River, they met Sofina at the docks. Sofina ordered him to hunt down and kill Edgin Darvis, Holga Kilgore, and Simon Aumar. But first, she wanted Dralas to dispatch Blackwood and his Neverwintan guards because they'd failed to stop Edgin and Holga's escape. Dralas slew them all single-handedly.[1][2]

Dralas and Xenk

Dralas and Xenk do battle once again.

Later, Dralas and his men caught up to Edgin, Holga, Simon, and Doric, who'd been joined by Xenk Yendar, as they rode through the Dessarin Hills and Kryptgarden Forest, though he could only watch them through his spyglass from atop a high bluff nearby. The assassins climbed steathily down after them[1][4] and tracked them through the Underdark all the way to their destination—the ruins of Dolblunde. Dralas and Xenk confronted and taunted one another, but the paladin handily took down the whole squad of assassins,[1][3] as his companions provided a little aid[3] but mostly just watched.[1] At last, Xenk dueled and defeated his old enemy Dralas. But he and the other undead warriors rose again, their wounds regenerating, and gave chase.[1][3] Then they were all interrupted by the surprise appearance of the red dragon Themberchaud, far from his home. He took care of the undead assassins, by simply running down and eating them; if Dralas was restored, then it was in the dragon's stomach.[5]

Notes[]

  1. The Honor Among Thieves movie and its tie-ins are as yet undated. As discussed here, from the condition of Castle Never and Dagult Neverember's reign, this wiki estimates a date of the late 1490s DR for the main events of the movie. Prequels and flashback scenes are set up to 11 years before this.

Background[]

Dralas is played by actor Jason Wong.[6][7] Initially reported as "Drallas", various sites said "Dralas is a member of the 'Undead,' a group of once-living creatures who have been brought to a horrifying state of 'undeath' through dark magic." This appears to have been copied from an early version of the Deadline article, with the description of the undead lifted from another D&D wiki, but later removed there and the name changed to "Drallas". The reason and the veracity of this is unknown.[6][8] Nevertheless, Dralas was confirmed to be undead in the Honor Among Thieves movie and novelization.

Strangely, on May 1, 2021, Wong posted a video on Instagram of himself having a full head cast made for an "exciting new project", later confirmed to be the D&D movie.[9] This was likely for a mask or effect for his role as Dralas, yet nothing is apparently in the movie itself, suggesting the character was changed or a scene cut, such as destruction in fire or acid, or as part of Sofina's unused ability to summon a wraith.
