El Ma'ra was an oasis and a settlement found in the Anauroch desert, It was home to the Qahtan tribe the Bedine people.[1][2][3]
Geography[]
It was located on the eastern stretch of the Sword, just south of the Bowl of Loneliness.[4]
Geographical Features[]
The oasis was located about 1 mi (1.6 km) away from Ma'ra Dat-ur Ojhogo, the sandstone mesa named after the spirit that lived within. The Bedine used the spire as a lookout post to better defend their home,[2][5] and would sacrifice some of their water to the resident spirit.[6]
History[]
In the Year of the Turret, 1360 DR,[7] the oasis and nearly all of the Qahtari were wiped out by the Zhentarim during their expansion of conquest across Anauroch.[8] There were only two survivors, the young warrior Kadumi and the spellcaster Ruha.[9]
Notable Inhabitants[]
The spire was inhabited by a place spirit called El Ma'ra Dat Ur-Ojhogo, translated from Midani as "The tall god who lets men sit upon his head".[2][10]
