Gooseberries were a common type of wild berry in the Realms.[2]

Places in the Realms where gooseberries were known to grow included:
- Chessenta;[2]
- Cormanthor,[3][4] including around the ruins of Myth Drannor.[4]
- Cormyr;
- Gooseberries grew throughout much of the The Dalelands.[5][6]
- Tethyr, particularly in the Purple Hills region.[7]
History[]
In the mid–14th century DR, Aurora's Whole Realms Catalogue sold both fruit cheeses (a type of preserve) and jams that were made from gooseberries.[1]
Usages[]
- The bears that inhabited the forest of Cormanthor particularly favored gooseberries and blueberries over most other food.[3]
- It was quite common for high-end establishments in the Realms to serve fruit tarts with a gooseberry filling as the first of two deserts in a full-course meal, what was known as the "First Sweet."[8]
- The High Flagon in Waterdeep offered its patrons sweet tarts with gooseberry filling.[9]
- The Moonstone Mask festhall in Neverwinter offered palm-sized gooseberries to their patrons.[10] Elsewhere in Neverwinter, inns, taverns, and the kitchens of private homes often filled hand tarts with gooseberries.[11]
- Gooseberries were often featured in the mixture of wild berries known as Brackleberry jam.[2]
- Gooseberries were often used by inhabitants of Waterdeep in cooking a local delicacy known as melverfew.[12]
- Gooseberries were one of the fruits used to make Purple Hills Cider.[7][13]
- Gooseberries were sometimes brewed into a tea in the Dalelands, the Western Heartlands, and Waterdeep.[14]
- Gooseberries were one of the many types of edible berries in the Realms that could be used as material components for the spell goodberry.[15]
