Many of those who used Footman's Folly fell in battle, believing that its minor magical defenses would be enough to help them in the face of overwhelming odds. According to the legends, this was the origin of the item's name.[1]
In the Year of the Griffon, 1312 DR, Footman's Folly found its way into the blue hands of Xuki, a wizard member of the Legion of the Chimera that menaced Icewind Dale. With her death, the shield changed owners once more.[1]
