For Duty & Deity is a 2nd-edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons adventure module for the Forgotten Realms.
The leader of Waukeen's church believes that these visions mean Waukeen is alive but trapped in the deadly and dangerous Abyss. A party of adventurers is dedicated to peeling back the mystery of the Golden Lady's fate. Their route takes them to the plane-spanning Infinite Staircase and beyond, to the Abyss, the home of the demonic tanar'ri. The heroes must brave the dangers of the Abyss and rescue the lost goddess from the clutches of one of the most brilliant and dangerous of all Abyssal lords.
This stand-alone adventure was developed in concert with the Planescape adventure anthology Tales from the Infinite Staircase. They can be played separately. However, guidelines within both allow a Dungeon Master to use either product as a subplot for the other, creating new opportunities for player characters and extending the opportunity for adventure.Description[]
For Duty & Deity is designed for six to eight characters of levels 10-12.
Synopsis[]
For Duty & Deity revolves around a critical event: the disappearance of Waukeen, the Goddess of Trade, during the Time of Troubles. The adventurers are tasked with a divine mission to rescue the missing deity, embarking on a journey that takes them through a series of challenging and perilous encounters.
The adventure begins with the characters being recruited by Lliira, the Goddess of Joy, who is deeply concerned about the fate of her fellow deity, Waukeen. Lliira reveals that Waukeen has been trapped in the infernal realm of the Abyss since the Time of Troubles, a tumultuous period when the gods were cast down to walk the earth. The characters must navigate the complexities of celestial and infernal politics, seeking allies and information in their quest to locate and free Waukeen.
Their journey leads them through various planes and realms, each presenting unique challenges and threats. The characters must contend with the treacherous landscape of the Abyss, facing demons and other malevolent entities that stand between them and their goal. The adventure is filled with intricate plot twists, intense combat, and moral dilemmas, forcing the characters to make difficult choices that impact the outcome of their quest.
Throughout the adventure, the characters uncover deeper layers of intrigue and deception. They learn about the precarious balance of power among the gods and the delicate nature of divine alliances. The rescue mission becomes more than just a quest to save a deity—it turns into a struggle to maintain the stability of the divine order and the overall balance of the cosmos.
