Forgotten Realms: Unlimited Adventures is a computer game released in 1993. It was developed by MicroMagic and published by Strategic Simulations, Inc. for the IBM PC and Apple Macintosh. It is also known as Unlimited Adventures, or by the acronyms FRUA or UA.
Gameplay[]
This game allows players to create their own adventures, which can be played only with Forgotten Realms: Unlimited Adventures. The engine is based on the Gold Box engine used in games such as Pool of Radiance and Curse of the Azure Bonds. The game uses a variant of TSR's Advanced Dungeons & Dragons rules in the gameplay.
The player typically controls a party of adventurers, leading them through cities and dungeons (presented in first-person perspective), talking to people, finding treasure, buying things in shops, fighting battles, etc. When combat begins, the screen switches to a top-down perspective where the player can control each party member while they fight the opponent.
The basic elements of each created game are its modules, that is, the levels that the player will be traveling through. The designer builds the modules by arranging walls and choosing floors and ceilings. Then comes the most important part: setting up the events. The events control everything interesting that happens in the game: combats, text messages, Non-Player Characters joining/leaving the party, the party visiting a temple/shop/tavern, and so on.
