Infoboxes are sidebar-style boxes designed to summarize the information within an article "at a glance", and provide certain limited rule-specific information to the reader.

They are intended to provide the reader with enough information to compare two articles, such as the power of one spell compared with another, or the abilities of two individuals.

Use the most appropriate infobox for the article you are writing, and place it at the top of the article. See Category:Infoboxes for a full selection, although some commonly used infoboxes include:

Citations[]

You must provide a citation for each fact presented in an infobox that is subject to being called into question. For example, there is no need to provide a citation for the name of the individual, since that is taken for granted. However, if you list any aliases for the individual, each of these should be referenced using the inline citation style. See Help:Citing sources for more on this.

Don't use old style citations[]

The old "whole infobox" style of citation is no longer accepted. It is rare that an entire infobox will have its information contained within one specific source, and even if it does, the "whole infobox" citation does not account for situations where a second source is introduced later on.

Unsourced information[]

If you encounter contestable information in an infobox and there is no source, you can add a {{Fact}} template next to it to indicate that a citation is required. If you know who was responsible for adding the unsourced information, you might prefer to ask this person to add a citation, by using his or her talk page.

If you can find the source for the information in question, please take it upon yourself to do so, verify it, and add the inline citation.

Removing information[]

You should only remove information from an infobox if it is wrong and you can demonstrate this with a citation (perhaps by replacing it with the correct information). Simply changing something "because you know it is right" without giving a citation is not a good way to do things and is likely to start revert wars.
