Proposed addition: Magic items[]

I think a section on magic items should be added to the policy. I initially started drafting it in the article itself, but figured it'd make more sense to discuss it here first. I'd initially placed it at the end of the article, following the "Spells" section, though if the sections are meant to be in alphabetical order, it'd actually appear before any of the others and would need to be reworded slightly. Here's what I came up with:

Likewise, the names of magic items should be italicized. They should also be all lower case, except when it includes a proper noun, meaning that the first letter of that word is capitalized; or when the item is an artifact, in which case all nouns are typically capitalized. For example:

That said, I'm unsure if D&D is itself consistent with capitalization regarding magic items between editions. I've only really seen 5e and its official style guide, which matches the text I've given above, but I don't know whether past editions follow the same styling conventions, or whether this wiki wishes to abide by certain style conventions that are different from those. (In looking for examples for the above list, I did notice that italics are missing from the names of several magic items on their respective articles.)

Otherwise, the above seems like a useful addition to me. Thoughts? --V2Blast (talk) 11:18, August 12, 2020 (UTC)

  • I confirmed that D&D 3e and 4e, at least, use the same conventions for styling the names of spells and magic items as 5e. It's also been many months with no objections, so I went ahead and added the proposed text above into the policy (modifying the wording slightly to place the new "Magic items" section in alphabetical order, above "Prestige classes"). I've also removed Template:Change policy from the article, since I've now made the change. V2Blast (talk) 11:05, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
