In response to [[User:TheBinder|TheBinder]], although there are mixed opinions about 4th edition (and by mixed, I mean 99% negative opinions!), the wiki should continue to focus on the Realms as a whole, especially as newer players will be looking for information on 4th edition. In response to [[User:SkyeNiTessine|SkyeNiTessine]], I find it ironic that 4th edition has been created as a way to combat the information overload of the previous 3.5 editions of the Realms, yet this wiki is specifically aimed to do exactly that! It's a shame more effort wasn't put into convincing people that yes, there's a lot of stuff out there for the first 3.5 editions, but you can ignore it if you want! We seem to have fewer and fewer inventive DMs and more of the sheep-style DMs who just want to run out-of-the-box adventures with no effort required!

Forums: Helping Hand > *Spoiler* Mystra died again. Why and what will happen?

Use the following template for a nicely presented post:

In the newish novel Undead: The Haunted Lands book 2, mystra is killed by Cyric and Shar. Why and what effect will this have?

Actually, this has been known for a while due to it being responsible for the spellplague, which in turn allows us to explain the hugely different way that magic works in 4E. Check out the articles on the WotC website leading up to 4E, for example "Countdown to the Realms". Quote: "Most suppose the Spellplague was the direct result of the goddess of magic’s murder at the hands of the god Cyric. Some whisper that Mystra’s death was achieved through the machinations of the goddess Shar, with Cyric her unwitting stooge."

The current year for this wiki is 1374, correct? 4th edition skips ahead to 1485 right?

Will we even concern ourselves with this ridiculous campaign destroying nonsense that is 4th edition?

This is complete sodding bollocks mamby-pamby nancy-boy bloody rotting rubbish from wanking Wi$ards.

That's were I stand.

I'm not really one to defend WotC, but they have been upfront about why they're doing this. You're not going to like the answer though. FR has become inacessible to the majority of players. There's just too much to keep track of, and players feel a tad overwhelmed at it all. For people like you and me, who have absorbed most of it, this feels like they're throwing out a good amount of lore. The intent is to have a bit of a clean slate. For casual FR players, this is a boon. And from what I've read on the LFR forums and talking with people, it's welcomed (though clearly not at places like CandleKeep.com, but they're not your average player either).

And to be honest, even I understand this. When my DM set her campaign in the Realms, she started us out on a completely different continent so that she had a place she could develop and create on her own, without some FR novel or resource invalidating or conflicting with what she developed. We still made trips to Myth Drannor, the Vast, and other recognizable places, we fought with Fey'ri in Hellgate Keep, and the deities still had a huge impact on our adventuring lives, etc... in other words it was still very much a "Realms" campaign. But part of it was a clean slate.

And in 4E this will remain: the Realms will still be recognizable as such, the deities will still play a major role (and of course Drizzt is still around... bleh). And nothing is being ret-conned (thank god!). So we'll be still be able to recite the full history of Mystryl/Mystra's lives and deaths (it's not like this is the first time she's died... she's getting quite used to dying by now), etc...

Thanks for the responses. I just figured it was new because it is(for the first time I have seen) in this new novel. I just read the books I might start D&D though.
