The Forgotten Realms Wiki turns 20 years old today! From humble beginnings as an abandoned project, through a troubled period overwhelmed by changes, followed by a time of work and renewal, to the current era of expansion and evolution, we’ve grown into the largest D&D wiki on the web and one of the oldest and most influential fan sites for the Forgotten Realms and D&D in general. We've seen three editions of D&D come and go. You can read some of our long and turbulent history here. Now, we have nearly 60,000 pages of lore for the Realms and other settings, with more new and expanded articles each day and are showing no signs of slowing down, and we have more and more active editors working together to grow the wiki and tell the story of the world we love. We also reach more than a million readers each month all around the world.

In that time, the Forgotten Realms Wiki has become an invaluable resource for fans and professionals alike, from your characters, campaigns, and adventures to official D&D sourcebooks, novels, video games, and even a major movie. We've aided and inspired countless heroes and stories, brought life and detail to depictions of the Realms, and amazed and surprised both new enthusiasts and lifelong fans. We've earned the respect and admiration of the fandom and the blessing of Ed Greenwood, father of the Forgotten Realms, and its many other creators.

The Forgotten Realms Wiki has also grown into something more than a wiki. We have flourishing social media accounts that deliver lore, artwork, and updates to the fans. We've developed a platform for promoting the works of other D&D fans, including streaming, podcasts, videos, books, and charity fundraisers. But we have our own creative projects too: fiction, scientific analyses of D&D lore, our own Legacy of the Green Regent campaign, and its spin-off, Juniper's Companion to Venturesome Cookery, a one-of-a-kind cooking blog bringing the dishes on the wiki to life. Uniquely, our skilled editors have even developed database and search tools such as Ask Valhaeria and the V.O.L.O. Discord bot that have accelerated wiki research. Most recently, we even entered the publishing game—perhaps the first wiki to do so—releasing The Forgotten Realms Wiki Presents Juniper's Companion to Venturesome Cookery on DMs Guild, a combined sourcebook and cookbook receiving glowing reviews, 5-star ratings, and a Silver Best Seller badge. And it's only our first.

So, whether you've created hundreds of pages, or tried only one, whether you've made thousands of edits, or made only one correction, we say thanks to every adventurer who's contributed over the last 20 years to making the Forgotten Realms Wiki the biggest and the best around. And we look forward to working together for another 20 years and more.

And we might finally be finished covering the Forgotten Realms by then.

Now I open the floor to you: tell us your memories of the Forgotten Realms Wiki, how it's helped you, what you've done on the wiki, and what you're proud of.

It's hard to believe that I only wanted to work quietly in my corner and not get involved... and I ended up getting involved, did so much work in so many areas with great fans, and shepherded it for 13 of those years through lows and highs, and never looked back. All worth it.

I still think of myself as a "new" editor, so it's weird to realize that I've been here for a full 20% of the wiki's life. Favorite memory is probably my mad dash at the end of 2022 to play and document all of Warriors of Waterdeep before it shut down, followed by the expression of astonishment from the writer on Twitter that all of the lore had been preserved.

This wiki got me into wiki editing back in 2011 when I saw that it didn't include a page for Deities & Demigods 1st edition. I scanned the cover of my book and uploaded it here. It has since been replaced with a better image, but that's the way wikis work—little improvements that add up over time to what you see here today. The wiki just reached 60,000 pages—about 5 times the size when I joined in. The concept of templates attracted the programming and problem-solving part of me, and I'm proud to have been a major contributor to the Template namespace and helping to keep the wiki edition-agnostic. I think my favorite accomplishment is working with Sirwhiteout on the Lunar calendar and its supporting structure. I'm still in awe that we did that on a wiki. On the content side, I wrote several articles over the years, some of which even became Featured articles. This wiki has been a big part of my life and even led to getting a job working for Fandom. I want to express my gratitude to all my fellow editors and contributors who collaborated to push this wiki to the top of the fantasy RPG world. It's truly been a life-changing experience.

20 years?! Wow time flies. I remember using this wiki for the first time around 2007, checking some information for a campaign. Then disaster struck. In 2017, I made the mistake of making my first contribution to the wiki. I was reading the Paths of Darkness series, and checked the wiki about a location in the book (always did this when reading FR novels). It was missing so I wrote Golden Cove. I got hooked, and 8 years and over 33,000 edits later, I'm still here. I get filled with joy when I see or hear about our wiki being used. I love our team and get excited when seeing new editors join. Here's to 100,000 articles!
