Editing Forum:4ed and the timeline

|Given the latest on 4th edition in the Realms, I think we're going to have to be more specific with our dates. The timeline is being advanced by around a hundred years, so any 1st/2nd/3rd edition information will need to have a date on it. For example, "Alusair Nacacia Obarskyr (the Steel Regent) is the princess and regent of the kingdom of Cormyr" will have to have "as of 1374 DR" added to it, because this is very unlikely to still be true 100 years later. Likewise, any 4th edition information will need to be accompanied by a date (even if it's rough) to distinguish it on the timeline.

|It has something to do with the external link. If you edit the post and remove the link it should show up fine. I tried it and it showed up in the post preview at least. BTW I've tried to implement this in a few places where I could, but it's tricky to insert it into the text without it sticking out like a sore thumb.

|Maybe we can do a similar thing to the '''age''' parameter in the {{tl|Person}} template, where you can specify a year when this information is correct, and the label in bold on the left of the template will say, for example, '''Leader as of 1375 DR'''. However, this doesn't solve the problem of how to display two different entries if, for example, the leader changes in 4th edition. Maybe we could display the most recent (ie 4th edition, if available) leader in the template, and give the 3rd edition one(s) in the article text?

|I'm all for the information boxes having a ''when the information is current'' section. I'm been strugling with just when certiain sorce books are current and then when thier information becomes inacurate or needs updating. You take for example The Time of Troubles [[1358 DR]]. In The Savage Frontier ''(Which is set in [[1358 DR]])'', no mention of it. Volo's Guide to the North which is set after [[1358 DR]] but before [[1367 DR]] also mentions naught about it. Another example [[Nesme]], in one source book it's listed as having been captured by a barbarian lord. '''ALL''' the other sorce books record it's capture '''BUT''' talk about the same barbairian al having a dream of capturing a city of the north. Having a item mentioning when the info is current in the info boxs would be '''so good'''. Also would like to see the source books have a ''Date Current'' in thier title

|From what I've seen, the Forgotten Realms won't jump 100 years. More like 10 to [[1385 DR]] when [[Mystra]] and [[Cyric]] both get killed. After all, we know that there are going to be books published over the next 2 years that are set in [[1372 DR]] still (for the most part at least).

[[TSR, Inc.|TSR]] wanted to advanced the timeline in second edition, but for various reasons they were unhappy with a lot of things that had already been written about the realms, so they came up with the [[Time of Troubles]] to give them license to mess with things. The Savage Frontier doesn't mention the Time of Troubles because it hadn't been conceived by the designers at the time.
-I definitely agree that sometimes it's difficult to discover when certain events took place, but usually it's possible to put a rough period on it, and there are some surprisingly good resources out there, such as the timeline at [http://o-love.net/realms/fr_time_books.html Forgotten Realms: The Library] which is great for novels.
