|Bought the new 4th ed Player's Handbook and the changes look really good, can't wait to see something that's FR-related though, mainly the 4th ed FRCS :)

|I don't think anybody has been particularly bothered by the rule changes in the core 4th edition books. I've got them myself and they do simplify the game and make it more fun for everyone involved. In 3.5 edition, after the low-level wizard has used his 3 spells or whatever, he has little to do until the party rests, but that's been improved!

What's annoyed everyone about 4th edition Realms, and overwhelmingly so (I haven't seen a single positive reaction to the changes in 4th edition), is that it's too far in the future, and a lot of things have been conveniently altered so that Wizards can cram in their new races etc. The other annoying part is that beyond the campaign setting and a few adventures, I hear there won't be anything in the way of official material, and it will only be an "active" campaign setting for a year, at which point Wizards will just give their undivided attention to another campaign setting.

Oh, and combine this with the fact that Dungeon and Dragon are now only available in electronic format to people who subscribe to the Wizards site. I hear it'll be $15 a month (I can't find any confirmation on the Wizards site) with no reduced subscription rate for people who just want access to the magazines and not the character and dungeon tools. Ok, so $15 is less than an issue of Dungeon and an issue of Dragon cost in printed format, but a lot of the cost of magazines is in printing and distribution, and for $15, people can subscribe to World of Warcraft or some other MMO, which I'm sure many will choose over D&D.

4th edition was Wizards' opportunity to modernise the game and make it more accessible. Instead I think they've done the exact opposite, so all the hard work done on the core rules by the game's developers will be undermined by some seriously prehistoric marketing management. Luckily the 3.5 Realms has a critical mass of fans who will keep it alive despite attempts by Wizards to kill it off!
