Hello, I am 23dutch45man or call me dutchman and I am an adminstrator of the Baldur's Gate Game Wikia with this url: http://baldursgategame.wikia.com/wiki/Baldurs_Gate_Wiki. If this forum post is against any policy of this wiki, please notify me.

The wikia I represent is a wikia about the video game of Baldur's Gate and the enhanced edition, and the short term goal is to make a complete wikia about the original and the enhanced edition of Baldur's Gate, but the future goal is to become a wikia for all video games bearing the title of Baldur's Gate, which means the Dark Alliance Serie and also Baldur's Gate II and the future released Baldur's Gate II Enhanced Edition.

To achieve that goal, the Baldur's Gate Game Wikia will merge with the troubled Baldur's Gate wikia at a short-term in the future to gain a better url and to combine the best of the two wiki's. But the wiki is in need of contributors who are familiar with the original Bhaalspawn Serie, the Dark Alliance or the enhanced edition of Baldur's Gate.

Anyone who might be interested, leave a message this forum post or on my talk page at either this wiki or the Baldur's Gate Game wikia or simply visit the Baldur's Gate Game wikia. I will try to look at this forum every two days.

Many thanks in advance,

There's no policy against this I can think of. Ask away! I think we'd all welcome links and interaction with related wikis, such as the Baldur's Gate wikis and other D&D wikis.

We have a number of BG game articles that could be cross-linked. Directly copying an article would be bad form, unless by the person who wrote it or most of it. I'm not really familiar with the BG games, I only played them once many years ago, but there's a few BG game articles here that I've overhauled that I could try copying over later.

Dutch, welcome!!! Wikia is a community as is the Forgotten Realms Wiki, feel free to share and such, but I agree with BadCat about copying from our wiki and posting it on another wiki, which I have see and DO NOT approve of, but such is the way of mass media :)
Darkwynters (talk) 03:31, March 22, 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Copying articles from one wiki to another is probably a bad idea because this wiki has information from the Forgotten Realms in general and not always specific from Baldur's Gate, while the information from the Baldur's Gate wiki must come from the games, game manuals and other closely-related sources. There are some novels based on the game of Baldur's Gate, can someone give the names of these novels?

But we can always add external links from a subject on the Baldur's Gate wiki to the Forgotten Realms about the same subject and vice versa. Also, there are some history books in the games of Baldur's Gate which might be interesting for the Forgotten Realms wiki, though it's likely you have already the information from other sources. But still, you might want to look at them.

Darkwynters, you claim that the Baldur's Gate wiki and/or the Baldur's Gate Game wiki has articles, or parts of articles which are copied from the Forgotten Realms. If you or other administrators/bureaucrats can tell me which pages have information copied from the Forgotten Realms wiki, I can do whatever is necessary, or nothing if the Forgotten Realms wiki does not mind.

You also have a much greater focus on crunch (i.e., rules and stats), which we try to avoid. We also have some very different formats and styles, so simply transferring wouldn't be easy. For example, I (re)wrote quiver of plenty to our house-style, which is very different from other magic items I see on the BGW.

I think DW is referring to clone-sites that automatically copy Wikipedia and Wikia articles to their own sites, or some fan sites that just copy our articles. Or when users do it here. I don't know if there's any legal matters around this, but I know other wikis discourage copying other editor's articles.

External links would work best. I'll look at some code for it.

The history books tend to just copy stuff from the sourcebooks, so they're usually not so useful for our purposes. But items and other things tend to introduce new information that's worth using. We can always search your wiki for game-lore to help our research along. :)

The BG novels are Baldur's Gate (novel) and Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn (novel). They do alter the storyline of the game a bit, and create the character Abdel Adrian to fill the player's role (though he has a minor cameo in Tales of the Sword Coast).

Out of curiosity, would you be covering the Icewind Dale games as well?

— BadCatMan (talk) 11:31, March 22, 2013 (UTC)

Ha! I've learned inter-wikia code links and created the BGW template to create links to the Baldur's Gate Wiki. I've tried it out on Kelddath Ormlyr.

— BadCatMan (talk) 12:11, March 22, 2013 (UTC)

Dutch, BadCat is correct about the copying and I did not mean your wiki :) I have added an inter-wikia link on the Friendly Arm Inn page... nice touch, BadCat... plus, Dutch the novels are Baldur's Gate (novel), Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn (novel), and Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal (novel).
Darkwynters (talk) 17:36, March 22, 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the titles of the three novels! I needed the names, so I can make an edit on the policies on my wiki.

As for the inter-wikia template made by BadCat, do you mind if I copy the template and make all necessary changes so it makes external links to this wiki?

I didn't know Darkwynters was talking about the problem in general and it's good to know my wiki does not have material copied from the Forgotten Realms wiki without permission. English isn't my native language, so I am probably the cause for the communication error.

To answer your question BadCat about Icewind Dales, let's say that if I could find 100 contributors within a month, who learn how the wiki works very fast and who will make around 5-10 edits each day for each contributor, and the enhanced edition of Baldur's Gate II would not be released within a year, there would be a small chance that the Baldur's Gate game wikia can cover the Icewind Dales games :-) .

The chance that is scenario is going to happen is like 1 in a billion, unfortunately :( , not within a year. Maybe the Baldur Gate wiki can cover it within two-three years, if the possible Baldur's Gate III doesn't exist by then, but that so far away, I can't make any promises on that.

I know there is a Neverwinter Nights wiki in existence and I believe the Icewind Dale wiki doesn't exist yet. Also, some kind of super wiki about all the games set in the Forgetten Realms is even more unlikely.

I believe you gonna have to wait that long or hope someone starts the Icewind Dale wiki on its own and hope it becomes successful very quick.

Sorry for the mess I have made with my previous post! I've tried if could correct my mistake, but I believe I would only make it worse.
23dutch45man (talk) 00:51, March 23, 2013 (UTC)

The forum post templates are touchy and don't like some content. I can fix some problems with your post, but it only makes it worse. :( PS: Ah! It didn't like the equals sign in your frowny face. Go figure. I changed the eyes and tweaked some other bits.

Inter-wikia template: Sure, copy it. I copied the code from another wikia, I imagine it's pretty standard. The documentation for it is all mine, but I'm not worried about that.

Icewind Dale: Well, if you leave the door open, eventually someone will come in and want to do it. If you build it, they will come. :) IWD and BG use the same engines, rules, and features, so there's a lot of overlap between them. Anyway, that's all up to your lot.

Just thought I'd throw my name in here. I've been working on the templates and some content over on the Baldurs Gate Wiki for some time. Some of you may remember me from way back when I used to edit on here. Glad to hear the support from FRW!

I want to let this wiki know that the template which makes external links to your wiki works fine. We will add this to more articles in time. I will also try to add the BGW template to more pages here.

About the Icewind Dale, with only two regular contributors, we can keep ourselves busy for a long while before Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II are considered finished. After that is done, we can consider it, but in the meantime Baldur's Gate II Enhanced edition will be released and maybe even Baldur's Gate III, if the enchanced editions can make enough money or if the games get popular enough to assure "financial success."

We probably won't get much information about the Dark Alliance serie, because these games were released 10 years ago and were never released for PC and also they weren't probably as popular as the Bhaalspawn serie on PC, so that won't be an obstacle for Icewind Dales.

23dutch45man (talk) 19:18, March 27, 2013 (UTC)

Great! We'll probably be adding the BGW linking template to BG-related pages as we come across them in our clean-up efforts. No hurry, really.

Hi, Thomas. I've seen your name around in old article histories.

— BadCatMan (talk) 11:31, March 30, 2013 (UTC)

I have two books in mind which are found in the game of Baldur's Gate which may add to the lore on this wiki, but it might be non-canon. These books are the diary of Sarevok and Balduran's logbook. The Baldur's Gate wikia has two pages about them.

I hope this may help you.

23dutch45man (talk) 20:51, April 7, 2013 (UTC)

I think such things can be included here.

I am happy to report that all out BG-tagged pages now have links to your wiki. :D So that's all our Baldur's Gate pages. I still need to check over the sequels and spin-offs.

— BadCatMan (talk) 09:55, June 13, 2013 (UTC)

Hay ^^! I have tones of Images for Balders gate II and BG:EE! And i have some for BG:DA 1 for GBA and until i can get my hands on a cable to hock my laptop to the TV i Cant get images of BD:DA 1 on Xbox (I dont have the second yet... The price for that game has been over priced recently one store wants 900kr witch in USD is about $137! So all that has to wait) But I would be very willing to add my images to your site! The only thing is that the BG:EE images have not been fully edited yet and a note about the Item images is that i Cut out all the crunch and have: lore, drawn image and the inventory image!

I shall makes pages for the books then. If you can make sure the articles are have the right right categories and lay-out, I shall add them to the wiki BadCatMan.

Thanks for adding links to our wiki, hopefully this wiki can benefit more from this in the future, when we get more contributors and readers!

23dutch45man (talk) 16:15, June 13, 2013 (UTC)

I have made the pages, but I am not familair with all templates and categories of this wiki, they require some cleaning before they are finished. Here are the links: The diary of Sarevok and Balduran's Log Book.
23dutch45man (talk) 21:27, June 13, 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, we've polished up Balduran's Log Book, and I will get to the other later.
— BadCatMan (talk) 14:09, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

Hey Terrorblades,

If you could upload the images at the Baldur's Gate wiki, especially those from BG DA1, feel welcome to do so! The Baldur's Gate wiki is using png.files as the standard file type for images, if you could upload them all in this file type, that would be great!

You don't have to upload images from the lore (in-game description) of items, because we add the text manually. This might save you some time and hard work.

Be sure to read this: http://baldursgate.wikia.com/wiki/Baldur%27s_Gate_Wiki:Images because this are our guidelines when uploading images. If this makes no sense or if you have questions, contact me on my talk page on the Baldur's Gate wiki or this wiki. I would be glad to help you out.

23dutch45man (talk) 14:48, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

And I've cleaned up The diary of Sarevok. Done!

It may be a little late, but the full text of all those books are available here.

— BadCatMan (talk) 04:11, June 16, 2013 (UTC)

Yeah sure my images for the GBA Editon of BG:DA is on PNG! But my BGII images are not... But When i get the right TV to the cable and computer I'll get the images in PNG and I'll uppload them to both the Wikis ^^!

BadCatMan, about the full text of the in-game books, I use a litte program to extract information out of the game files for Baldur's Gate I and II, we probably don't need the link.

I am still finding pages here about Baldur's Gate I and/or II without an external link to our wiki, perhaps your conclusion is a bit premature.

And thanks for your edit on quiver of plenty and history of the vast on our wiki.

23dutch45man (talk) 17:17, June 26, 2013 (UTC)

I have found many spells in the Category:Spells which appear in Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II too. Here is a link to our longest list of Spells. I shall try to track down some here as well.
