A while back, I had discussed the idea of adding Creatures found in Foo categories for locations on Toril, and the consensus was no. Since that time, a few have snuck back in, namely, Category:Creatures found in Chult and Category:Creatures found on the Sea of Moving Ice.

Has the community opinion on this changed? And if so, there needs to be a way to regulate and source such a massive project.

I'm still not in favour of it. While I'm happy to use it for the sparsely populated world of the Eberron Wiki, here on the FRW many common creatures will wind up with dozens of extra categories, and it would be a lot more work. If it was used, the system would have to be limited to a coarse level like "Creatures found in North Faerûn]] to stop it getting out of hand.

Honestly, I think sorting creatures by the location level BadCatMan specifies for Faerûn + continent-wide ones for Kara-Tur, Zakhara, and Maztica might be the way to go. Not sure where this'd leave oceanic creatures, though.

If such a system were implemented it should probably exclude creatures that are ubiquitous (or close to it) such as dogs, horses, goblins, humans, etc.

I for one really like this idea. We already have categories to show creatures that are found on different planes. But I do have trouble seeing how it will work in a practical sense. The limits that BadCatMan wants to set would help for sure; I also wouldn't want to nest articles within additional parent categories. With regards to Look-a's point, we could scale the categories based on the prevalence of the creature:

While orcs are widespread across Faerûn, gray orcs predominantly originate from certain regions in northern, northeast and east Faerûn.

In contrast, the less prevalent Halruaan behir would only have "category:Creatures found in Halruaa."

I have a twofold question about the project Lhynard: Do you want to add these categories to improve creature article organization - or - do you see it as more location-centric, so every location had a category with all of the creatures found within?

(apologies for the lengthy response)
