Forums: Helping Hand > Divine realms treatment

Use the following template for a nicely presented post:

{{Forum post|Write your message here!|~~~~}}

In 2nd edition all deities (more or less) have a divine realm, in 3rd edition some do. For many of these only the name, respective deity and the plane and layer they are on are known. What does anybody think: Should these realms get their own very short article, should they get redirects, or only appear within the Deity template? If redirects, should we add "Divine Realm" to the standardized sections of the deity template, so they have a reasonable place to point to?

If there is any information on the realm other than the name, then it can probably have its own article, otherwise it is just a tidbit to add to the article about the deity.

For Ilmater, I was able to find sufficient information on his realm of Martyrdom for a full article, and for a short summary at Ilmater#Realm. But that was for a major deity, of course, with focus given to it, a planar site, and a consistent name but varying location in each edition. I think the 3-sentence rule applies here. If there's enough information for a full article, then we work it up. If it's no more than a name and an address, then a redirect to the plane or layer it's on is sufficient (it's a part of the layer more than the god). The god's page could have a brief discussion of their realm as appropriate.

I'm not sure I agree with your parenthetical statement above, BadCatMan. A divine realm is created by a deity, shaped as he/she wishes, and takes on characteristics related to the deity, thus the divinely morphic trait. The realm moves with the deity. Sune's realm of Brightwater has gone from Arvandor to being its own plane, to being a part of the Gates of the Moon. If Brightwater did not have its own article, to what would you point a redirect? I think the redirects for unexplored divine realms should point to the deity's article, since they tend to move around from plane to plane.

I was using the assumption that it's a location in a location, but yeah, that's a good point. :) In any case, the tidbit about a godly realm would go on both the god's page and on the pages for any planes it's on. The redirect itself can be categorised as a Location on the planes it's on and the cosmologies it's in. After that, it's a bit arbitrary where the redirect actually points. Wherever has the most information is the best choice.

Thanks for the input! So a redirect either to deity (should the deity template page get a standardized section "Divine realm" then?) or plane, decided case-by-case. As a related technical question: Is it possible to make a link to section written like that: ;Section Header (I am thinking about Layers of the Abyss here.)

Links can be made to any header that shows up in the Table of Contents. You would have to change the ";Section Header" to something with equal signs (=====Section Header=====, for example) to be able to link to it.

Actually, since one could write three or four sentences on changes in location and cosmology alone for each realm, an article could be stretched out past the 3-sentence rule anyway. :)
