To keep track of what needs doing and who's doing what regarding Honor Among Thieves (HaT) and its various tie-in material, I've created this project page to list the related articles and their statuses. Please check these off and update to indicate which articles are in good shape, which need work, and which you're currently working on or intend to work on soon.

I've marked some as Done based on them having Good banners, appearing complete and comprehensive on a skim, or the knowledge they'd been developed recently. However, even an article that's marked as Done could be revised or expanded, and will need work again after releases, so don't treat these estimates as rigid and expect them to be in flux. Some entries are speculative for various reasons, so check before committing to a major project.

Mark entries off with: {{in progress}}, {{not started}}, {{done}}, and any other details you think necessary. A "Done" article should now include all relevant HAT lore, "In Progress" is an article actively worked on, and "Not Started" is one claimed but not begun ~ BadCatMan (talk) 02:03, 25 January 2023 (UTC)

Timeline

As the movie and the tie-in novels are undated, I thought we should start laying out the dating evidence so we can find a year for it or at least just keep our timeline consistent given the heavy use of flashbacks.

First, Dagult Neverember is out of power, then put back in power by the movie's end and undoes everything, so it could take place in any roughly two-year-long gap in late-1400s Neverwintan history. But since Dagult was in a coma and seems visibly older and white-bearded (can't say if it's age or sickness), I don't think it could slot easy into his prior history, it has to come after we last heard from him.

The only real change to Neverwinter is the conspicuous addition of the Neverwinter Arena. Meanwhile, Castle Never seems to have been restored, with no damage or monsters, many well-used areas, and recently installed or upgraded security, good enough for visiting merchants to store their riches in its vault. If Acquisitions Incorporated is indeed dated to 1496 DR, then the rebuilding was still ongoing that year.

Then Dagult "fell ill" (magical sickness), Forge took over, began logging Neverwinter Wood and built the Arena. This had to all take some time, but no more than two years, so I assume the main events of the movie to be 1497 DR/1498 DR or later. However, I do like the Year of the Desperate Gambit, 1499 DR as a loose theme of the movie. In any case, I give it a placeholder year of 149(m) DR below. But for articles I'm saying 'late 1490s DR'.

Timeline:

  • "Over a century ago", Szass Tam turns a bunch of people at the Citadel into undead. He and the zulkirs are still on speaking terms so this must be before the War of the Zulkirs started in 1375 DR. Strong potential for an unreliable narrator here, as it's from a book and childhood memories.[1][2]
  • "A century ago", the Battle of the Evermoors, assumed c. 1400 DR[3][2] The Year of the Exorcised Helm, 1402 DR, seems most fitting.
  • After the Battle of the Evermoors, Xenk finds Dolblunde reoccupied by mind flayers and deep gnomes, no sign of Daurgothoth.[4]
  • Neverwinter's High Sun Games were active when Edgin was young (dad took him to see one), later banned by Dagult,[5][2] which must be after he took power in 1469 DR.
  • 149(m−11): 11 years ago, Edgin joins Harpers. Zia is pregnant with Kira.[6][2]
  • 149(m−11), less a few months): Zia is murdered, Edgin becomes a single dad to baby Kira. Later joined by Holga.[6][2] Robbery of Pendro's Pawnshop.[7]
  • A 4-year-long gap here. I propose that the 2–3-year-long Everlasting Rime of 1486/14871489 DR fits well here and may explain some desperation for the characters, though the weather is clearly back to normal before and after this period.
  • 149(m−7): 7 years ago, Edgin, Holga, & Kira turn to a life of crime with a smash-and-grab of a jewelry store. Kira is aged 4.[6][2]
  • 149(m−2): Nine years after robbery of Pendro's Pawnshop, Kira aged 9. Events of Honor Among Thieves: The Road to Neverwinter.
  • 149(m−2): 2 years ago, Edgin, Holga, Simon, and Forge recruited by Sofina for Korinn's Keep robbery. Kira should be around 9.[6][2] Middle parts of Honor Among Thieves: The Druid's Call.
  • 149(m) DR: Movie start, meeting with Absolution Council. Said to be their "second year of incarceration"; it's been two years since they were incarcerated.[6][2] Kira is around 11.[5]

Chris Pine was about 40 at the time of filming, so assuming Edgin is the same age and saw the Highsun Games no younger than 5 (else he wouldn't remember the trauma) and assuming Dagult banned them immediately on taking power (though he might not have), then Edgin could be born c. 1464 DR, placing an upper limit on the movie's date of c. 1504 DR, FWIW. However, it's more like young Edgin was older and Dagult banned them later, so estimates will fluctuate all around. ~ BadCatMan (talk) 10:37, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
