Quick question: How does one become an administrator at this wiki? I can't find any information about it. Do we take a vote, make a good speech, run some tests, hold a talent competition? Or is it just impressing another admin?

I ask because I'm interested in becoming an administrator so I can help out and tidy up more and to explore the admin's role.

Ahaha :) I can hula hoop, while chewing A gum.... During this time, i keep my eyes open, i can breathe quite calmly and stand on my feet.... (I really don't know about the answer, but with this post i keep hoping.. :D )

To become an administrator, you must demonstrate a devotion to the wiki, provide many good edits (adequate spelling & grammar plus accurate realmslore written in an appropriate way) and show that you know something of the more in-depth workings of the wikia software. Then, most importantly, you must attract my or Fw190a8's attention. Unfortunately neither of us are around much at the moment so you'll have to bombard the activity page with your username. If BadCatMan or Darkwynters want the job then they both already meet these requirements. I'll check back here next week to see if you guys do.

Hash & Eli, thank you... I would totally vote for BadCatMan... excellent editing skills and good interactions with other users :) Personally, I would be honored to become an admin... of course, I will continue in my normal fashion on this wiki, helping other users and editing this wonderful wiki... but I would finally have the power to delete swear words and troll activities... MAAHAA... *bows his head hoping for Hash to bestow upon him the wand of anti-troll actions* :)

Thank you very much for the praise. I'll try to justify it by big-noting myself and my work, and see if you all think me worthy. :) I also thank Darkwynters for his great and continuing efforts fixing and developing categories around here, and hunting down copied material.

Some may know me as the head DM of the Realms of Adventure community on RolePlay onLine!. Some may also remember my username from the old Wizards of the Coast Forgotten Realms forums, where I got involved in many a lore-based discussion to share information and ideas. I faded away with 4th edition and the yucky new forums there. But a few years ago I got interested in wiki editing, and joined another wiki to practice. At the time the Forgotten Realms Wiki seemed to have a lot of core 4th edition stuff that left me overwhelmed. I spent over a year learning the art at the other wiki, and wrote many fine articles. But I kept wanting to get back to my FR lore and research, and made an effort to familiarize with FRW at the beginning of this year, starting in mid-February and racking up almost 1300 edits in over 7 months. I've come and gone as I've divided my time with my other wiki and had work to do (which I just got out of a batch of, hence my recent quietness), but now things are settling down I'd like to focus my work here.

Since starting, my main project has been writing articles to develop the Vast, my first and favourite realm. I'm quite proud of Procampur and Tsurlagol, all my own work and possibly the biggest articles here. Ah! Special:LongPages: not counting lists, Procampur is the 2nd biggest article on FRW, the Vast 17th, and Tsurlagol 27th. :D I believe these are thoroughly well researched and well written. I'm a professional technical and scientific editor, so I'm quite familiar with the rules of grammar, spelling, style, and with writing for clarity and logical arrangement. (Yeah, it is kind of sad that I have the same hobby as my job, but I like to apply those skills to something more fun and enjoyable.)

Along the way, I've also helped hunt down and mark for deletion and restoration a good deal of old copied material, helped find sources for several things, and tidied up several articles. I've battled vandals and trolls, dealt with copiers and helped new users. Recently, I trawled through all of Category:Citation templates to improve the alphabetical ordering, categorisation, and making other corrections. I've also gotten involved in a number of discussions on policy, launched a few, and introduced a few styles and techniques.

I'd like to become an administrator as I believe it would help me continue my above works more effectively. That is, to clean, delete and restore pages more easily, to battle trolls with more power, and so on. As Hashimashadoo said above, the current admins aren't always around, so more admins should complement them nicely. And more broadly, I'd like to contribute more to developing the Forgotten Realms Wiki. This place has such a friendly, cooperative, helpful community where people are always willing to get involved, so I'd like to help maintain that.

I HAD a really really long and sentimental speech, just like BatCat's *looks through his pockets* I mean, I had one longer than BadCat's... and now I've lost it... Oh, well, I guess I will just have to recite the four lines I read over and over again in the Spring of 1992 while read in 6th grade English class... Ah yes, I used to be a DM on RoA too. Offered XP rewards from my own DM XP reserve for players who helped out on this site. If I hadn't had to drop out because of my lack of internet, I'd owe you a tonne by now BadCatMan. Pity the takeup wasn't very good among anyone else.

Ha! Long time, no see, NinjaCow. RoA is ticking along nicely, smaller now after 4th edition, but still going strong.

Damn, I wish I'd gotten interested in wiki-ing and the FRW back when you spruiked it. I'd have so much of my FR projects done and my hobbies would be easier now.

Hmmm, I wonder if I can nominate an editor for administrator... basically we have two "active" (hopefully FW and the other admins will return) high admins: Hash and BadCat and two admins: myself and Cronje... so, I would like to nominate Movie to be promoted to administrator... reasons: 1) He has a lot of edits, in fact he is number 10 on the Wiki Statistics page [[1]] (I am not sure everyone can see this?); 2) Movie is actually #5 on the top five recent high editors [[2]]; 3) He has at least TWO featured pages... which is... ahhh TWO more than me :) ; 4) He logs onto the wiki at least once every other day and while he might take a week off, he is right back online working like a fiend (I was nosy and checked his contributions page... okay, I actually check to see who logs on everyday... do you realize how many editors log onto the wiki everyday :) (Totally off the subject: the wiki had 359.2 K views last week and 693 edits!!!) Anyway, I am just putting in my two cents on an excellent editor... Excellent work, Movie!!!

I think Movie has the workings of a great admin... we should ask High Admin Hash... so maybe like the Featured Pages, three admin votes leads to admin status (what do you think?) I feel I am the wiki's troll hunter, so like Realmland Security, I STALK, hehe :)

Eh, you can mainly do what you do already, but with added powers to delete pages and block trolls, and access some different features at the Admin Dashboard. I find I tend to work less on my own projects, as I spend more time on admin-type stuff now.

It's the Rule of Three. :) (Oh, wait, wrong setting.) Three's an odd number and is a good representative sample of regular users.

Hmmm, maybe not just yet... but looking at the Forgotten Realms Wiki:Administrators, which I have been monitoring... and glancing at a certain editor, one... Artemaz... 13500 edits and 1000 pages created... this is exceptional work for an editor... not sure we need another admin... but he certainly has potential :)

I'm quite impressed by the work that both Coswig and Artemaz have done around here, cleaning up and tagging pages, adding infoboxes and categories, and making and organizing said categories. This is all in addition to the lore they've added and new articles they've written. They've both more than demonstrated the necessary skills and dedication that Hashimashadoo outlined above. It might be odd to have more admins than regular users, but administrator status would give them the powers to do what they already do much better, and ultimately be good for the wiki. Admin status here will probably become less a matter of being charge and more being an established, respected user with full rights and powers. More of a knight than a noble.
