At w:c:Community:Help:Bots#Check Page, Community Central now recommends creating a Check Page listing the bots allowed on a particular wiki. AutoWikiBrowser uses this to see if the bot is okay to run. This prevents trolls and vandals from using AWB to mass-vandalise a wiki. With that in mind, I've now created a Check Page and tested a bot edit.

So, if you own a bot and use AWB, and/or simply use AWB as a user (and you should be admins anyway), please list your names here so I can add them to Forgotten Realms Wiki:AutoWikiBrowser/CheckPage (which I've admin-protected).

Currently, it lists:

  • BadCatMan
  • UnseenServantBot
  • MovieBot

Moviesign, do you use AWB as a user as well as as a bot?

Ah, right, I'm the one who can make admins. I've made UnseenServantBot and MovieBot admins, so we can delete pages through AWB now.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean. The bot can log in as anyone with a name and a password, right? The difference is that a bot account doesn't spam the Recent Changes list (unless you show bot activity). I only have the two accounts, Moviesign and MovieBot, so if I use AWB it would be under one of those two names.

Yes. Bots are only accounts marked and hidden as bots. However, anyone with AWB and a username can log in and make edits that way, and they will show up as a regular editor (I do that for more involved bot-type work, usually under my own name). In the past, we've suffered organised trolls with accounts who come in and make large-scale vandalism. The risk is that one will make a disposable account, install AWB, and vandalise 10,000 pages at once. So the Check Page guards against the possibility.
