We have a bunch of articles here that are vital to the Forgotten Realms setting, but describe subjects that exist in the real world as well. E.g. longsword.
Now... my proposal is that we:
- give a brief definition of the subject in the introductory paragraph
- focus on how the subject in question functions in the Realms
- not include real world data in the article
- link to Wikipedia via {{wikipedia article}} to point users to the real world data

Absolutely, I agree. It's important to say, using your longsword example, what races in the Forgotten Realms favour the sword, how and where it is constructed, and perhaps some famous examples of longswords in the Realms. Real-world information would not be relevant, except where it is used to compare to or contrast against the Realms equivalent. It's a good idea to provide a link to the Wikipedia article too, so that there is further reading available, and your template seems perfect for that.
There are a number of articles already in existence that use your ideas, such as elm and grass, but they don't use the {{wikipedia article}} template, so hopefully they can be converted.

OK, I've done a few. See Longsword and Grass for examples.
Note that I'd rather put this at the end of an article, in a "See also" or "External links" section, but when there are no other links to add into those sections, a lone template looks odd (especially since it's aligned to the right).
