Forums: Helping Hand > New Category intersection template

Use the following template for a nicely presented post:

{{Forum post|Write your message here!|~~~~}}

The new {{Category intersection}} template has been added to {{Location}} and {{Category jump}} so that the Settlements... links now point to it and, when clicked, produce a category-like list of pages that are in both specified categories. This has the potential of breaking many links so if you find a problem with any of this, you can rollback my changes to the way it used to be and I'll fix it. Preliminary tests look good so far, but all the Settlements in... categories have to be removed and Category:Settlements has to be added to the corresponding Locations. If you have any questions, comments, or requests, especially about other places this template might be useful, please post them here.

I've just been playing around with this Movie and I must say it is awesome how you can really customise your searches. How many categories could we add onto this? At the moment it only seems to work with up to 2 when I put it in url. Any chance we could incorperate this into an Advanced Search page or something for new users?

The possible combinations of categories are:
  • Cat1 AND Cat2 AND Cat3....
  • Cat1 OR Cat2 OR Cat3...
  • (Cat1 OR Cat2 OR Cat3...) AND (CatA OR CatB OR CatC...)

It currently only takes two arguments. I can add more categories if you need them, but I'll have to experiment whether I want to modify the current template or make a new one. Adding logic to determine which and how many variables a user sets would probably make the template look quite complicated.

I don't think we have control over the Advanced Search page, unfortunately. I would love to make a form that lets users choose a list of categories and run a search on them, but I don't know if it's possible (yet). :)
